Study the bible?

I would start with Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. These books are about the good news of salvation, and they contain the words of Christ. They will give you a lot to think about, and a lot to apply to your own life. Along with prayer they will help you to know God in a personal way. Also read Psalms, Proverbs and the Book of Acts. I think that is a pretty good start. Let your study time become a time of communion between you and God, as well as academic.

Find a Bible you can understand. Even the NIV which comes from corrupted texts, and is easy to read is acceptable for study. The errors are minimal an won't hinder much on doctrine.

But if you want a Bible translated from quality texts get a Bible translated from the Majority Texts.

Also consider getting the Bible on CD or other audio format and listen to it. You will be able to consume alot more scripture that way.

Bibles with commentaries are useful, but be aware of what that person stands for.

I pray first, then I get the tools I will need, pencil, paper. I use the Holy Bible, a good concordance, and a good Bible dictionary. Then I take time to read one subject at a time, or study. Like say, I will read the story of Jesus' birth, I will read it completely first. Then, I will go back and look up words and get their meanings and then combine it all together for my understanding. Then I mark my place, and start there the next study and read the complete story there.

Dear Friend,

How wonderful it is that you want to study the Bible. However, no one can "just" read the Bible and understand it. If you have asked Jesus Christ into your life, then "ask" the Holy Spirit to "teach" you His Word.

The Holy Spirit was given to us during Pentecost in the Book of Acts. He is our ...teacher, protector and comforter. He teaches us the Word of God when we ask Him. He protects us from the wiles of the devil and indulging in the temptations of this world and, He is our comforter when we need comforting.

Here are a few good basic principles of studying the Word of God:

1. Begin with prayer. Ask the Lord to open your spiritual ears to hear, and spiritual eyes to see what it is He wants you to learn.
2. Read the Bible verses out loud.
3. Meditate on what you read.
4. Obey the Word of God and ask the Lord to show you how you can apply what you have read in your daily life.
5. Spend quality time in His Word every day.

Jesus wants to have a personal relationship with you so that you can get to "know" Him...personally. What an awesome privilege.

Blessings,

lostnsavd aka Dorene

Get a couple of easy to read Bibles, so you can compare translations. if you get hung up. and get a couple of bible study guides..they have lots on line. Then question what you have just read in the Bible and the study guide to see if you agree. Join a bible study group in a local church.

You read it. Better yet, find someone that knows about it and ask them to study with you. Go to a bookstore and ask for some Bible studying material, that should guide you. They have Bible studies for women. The Word of God is inspired by Him, so pray and read.

I usually just take a situation in my life that I want to understand more about like, temptation or walking in love. Then I look in the concordance for scriptures about it and just focus on those to learn more about myself and God.

Hope this helps.
