I find it surprising that a teacher would tell you to "pretend".
No one can give you advice, or tell you how or why you are a patriot. Its something you either feel or you don't. Its a personal thing.
Have you travelled to at least 2 or 3 other countries? As for me, I've been to several others, and although I've enjoyed my travels, I've never been anywhere that I've thought "wow, I'd rather live here". I love my country & fellow citizens, flaws and all. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Sure, there are problems, but sometimes a part of patriotism is working to make your country even better.

You sound like a young kid, probably from the PRC (Peoples Republic of California) that has spent too much time listening to your libral school teachers. Perhaps it's time to stop being a sheeple and become your own shepard, then you will find what you seek. The real reason this is the greatest nation in the world. Don't be a sheep.

Use the potboiler liberal arguments for hating America actually being patriotism. You love your country so much you want to save it from itself and make it a better place. That sorta thing. Really, you can turn any position on it's head with a little pithy rhetoric and double-think.

If your doing on oral report, just slam America and say the worse things you can think of about our country. Then end it by saying that you love America, because in this country, we have the freedom of speech to do what you just did and not get shot.

very good question. I used to love this country to death but then I have realized it is no different from the rest of the world. So I was disillusioned. However, I went to my ancestral country and found they did not want me there cause I was from here. So now i have to try and fix what I think may be wrong here. Get over it we are the product of this country our country lets fix it I guess.

You just answered your own question. Tell your teacher the dog ate your homework. Then go somewhere else.

American children amuse me sometimes. Write what you want. I'm sure your mommy and daddy won't let the mean teacher fail you anyway. Remember, honey, it's all about you.

How about focusing on the fact that this country allows you to voice your criticisms openly?
