I would suspect that you are in part if not a full super-taster. The vast majority of the population isn't and won't detect "smells" that you do. As for the smells. Cry-O-Vac "commercially vacuum sealed" sometimes use inert gasses. Also there is a distinct Cry-O-Vac smell that we have to contend with in restaurant kitchens. Whole muscle pork is probably the worse. Rinsing and patting dry and waiting a length of time takes care of this. As for chicken. Sanitizers are use through out the processing plants, and though not harmful, is inevitable that gets on the chickens. Rinse and pat dry will take care of this too.

I know exactly what you mean, but I only smell it when I buy pork that has been very tightly sealed. Pork that was cut and wrapped at the grocery store or market doesn't seem to have that same strong smell. I believe the other people when they say it's OK.
I've mostly noticed it with ribs.

I cannot eat pork because of the way it smells. I have a strong sense of smell and I notice things often that others don't. Pork is one of the few things though that I find absolutely nauseating.

I would question the condition of the market first. But I have a very keen sense of smell myself and I tend to smell things that other do not. I picked it up when I was pregnant (14 ys ago) and haven't lost it. My husband teases me about being a "superhero" with the super sense of smell. But usually it's more of a curse. There are more offensive odors than pleasant ones. But anywho...maybe try frozen meats, the kind that come in individual shrink wrap packaging and see if you have the same problem. I wonder if maybe it could be some sort of allergic reaction? Good luck.

Meat should not smell odd. Are you sure that the market is keeping their meat at the right temperature? Dont eat anything that does not smell good. You might want to get a second opinion from someone else to see if they agree about the odors.

If nobody else is smelling it, then your sense of smell is a little off. If I were experiencing those reactions, I think I'd stop eating pork!

I would go to a new market if I were you. Could be the way they are cleaning out the display, etc.
If you purchase meat elsewhere and still smell sulfer and bleach, perhaps a trip to your Dr. is in order. You may have a sinus infections.
