I am from Indiana, but I was visiting Chicago and was given a ticket for "improper lane change". Please cite reputable sources. Thanks.

No, there is no source need to site. If an officer observes a violation he can issue a ticket. The officer does not even have to be on duty although off duty traffic stops for no other reason is against the police departments orders in Chicago, not the law but just the department policy.

Nope.. That is how they catch you.. Many Police Departments are slick and have slick sports cars they use as unmarked cars to catch you speeding. The Hint the unmarked car is indeed a Police Cruiser. the dark tinted windows. Plus if you sharpen your eagle eyes, you will be able to see the led lights on the back window, on the dash, and in the grille of the vehicle.

Additional Information: Our Police Chief writes tickets to speeders in his unmarked police car. Oh, he wears the Chief's Uniform not a suit.

No, if an under-cover cop car is pulling you over you may call 911 to determine if it is really a cop car. If you are unable to call the police then you are justified in driving to a police station or a secure location. However, they still have all the power to fine your or even arrest you if they see fit. You may also ask 911 to send a marked car to your position, but these are typically if you have a fear that the car is not a real cop.

No law requiring Police vehicles to be marked. Chicago uses a lot of different cars. I have seen SUV's, Ford Mustangs, Chevy Impala's, cargo vans etc. Just drive more carefully.

Nope. I usually drive an unmarked and I write tickets no matter if I got the stripes or the plain white wrapper.

As long as the vehicle has the proper lights and siren then it is good to go.

LOL.. of course not.. There are many unmarked cars patroling the highways.. As long as it was a true officer of the law, he can give anybody a ticket..It's not the car, but the person who does the ticketing.

Unmarked state police cars often cruise the highways and often give out tickets.
