It is based on the earliest truth of man's beginning and earliest history. If there were any argument against that truth it would have happened then. Instead you find ancient tales of creation spread all around the world, in many counties and in many languages. Even the truth of that message is not argued against by the 3 major religions. And the people where the book and religions started are still there. you cannot argue against their existence. Instead you would be blind if you did. The Bible is based on man's experience for and against God. That is still seen here between believes had non believers. That is the experience that the Bible is all about. That is why it is so great.
Therefore religion is belief in that ancient record of man as the truth from where man really comes from. That is where all knowledge of man should lead to isn't it? The truth.
Science is based on fact all the time. But it is based on what man is still learning about the earth. And that knowledge is always replaceable and changes. It is good to have scientific facts for cures for diseases and to produce more food for the hungry. This kind of science is good.

Well the bible actually agrees with science!
For instance, read the Genesis account of creation. Well Science agrees that these were the same steps that the planet were made habitat for human life, from let us get light, to let us produce fruit and veggies!
Fact is that when even in the Bible book of Job when other cultures believed that the earth was carried on the backs of elephants, or a God names Thor. etc.Job 26:7 tells us that "He"GOD" is stretching the north over the empty places, Hanging the EARTH upon nothing.
A much better answer than turtles or a strong man/god carrying the earth on his shoulders, Don't you think!
You pick any Bible topic my friend, I will show you how it blends with nature. I promise! E mail me through Yahoo, my spelling will be the only unearthly thing, I PROMISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love science and I love the Bible. I have no problem embracing both. If I wax poetic I can say the sun hangs in the sky..I know that it doesn't scientifically, that it is one AU out in space and we orbit it. But both are right to me..One is the emotional expression of the sun to me, the other is fact. There is a time and place for both.
The bible says we all come from Adam and Eve. Science's study of mitochondrial DNA says we all come from one woman. Was her name Eve..I don't know..But the truth is we are all brothers and sisters.
The Bible says we were fashioned from the dust of the Earth..Science says we are carbon based life forms..made with the minerals found on Earth..Is that so different.
The Bible says God stretched out the Universe..Science says the Universe is expanding.
We can nit pic at things like did the bible say the world was flat..or did the ancient Hebrews just have no word for globe..Even a pomegranate is called a disk..and while we do this we miss the message of love, charity, faithfulness that humans really need to learn.

This is the bible in a nutshell:
1. It is a book written and compiled by groups who felt it important enough to sanctify.
2. This book excludes more facts than it contains. It is not fluid or dynamic. It is essentially edited and closed.
3. This book was written over a long period of time and contained the thoughts and feelings of real people.
4. This book is specific in scope, dealing with the inner workings of particular groups at particular times.
5. The bible has never claimed to go against science or fact, only those who read it have. The bible in the most basic sense is the architecture which provides the commentary for living a god-fearing life. Everything else outside this book simply has to be dealt with as it happens (using tradition and wisdom as a guide).

Science is supposed to be based upon fact. However, Evolution gets to be the exception to the rule. First you have your prejudiced idea, then you try to make your discoveries conform to the Theory (which has yet to be proven after 150 years & lots & lots of cash)
Your belief in the Big Bang, Billions of Years, and Evolutionary Theory takes more faith than mine. At least the Creator does not take a Mathematical Miracle.
For any form of life to have evolved from pre-existing energy/matter (this is giving you the benefit of the doubt that energy/matter are eternal) it takes mathematical odds that are nearly impossible to compute, and simply are outrageous.
So who has faith? You do. Mine is just more logical and observable.

"Science is fact"
"Religion is belief"
What possible reason would I have for rebutting something I agree with? However, the scientific method does not apply to religion. The Bible's contents cannot be repeated in any laboratory, and obviously are not observable in any scientific sense. Of course, too many people wrongly assume otherwise to their own embarrassment.

Science is constantly refined and debated. I don't think you can call it "fact" when science is a collection of theories that are being studied. You can't ever say "well, we are done with Science." because there are always new things to study.
If you think I am wrong, please pick up a science book from 75 years ago. It will make you giggle. 75 years from now, our science books will make our grandchildren giggle.
Our generation is more arrogant than wise. Accept that you don't know everything. Putting your faith in science is a little silly.

Where exactly do you mean that the bible goes against science, what verses?
Be specific, as I do not think the bible goes against science.
God created everything.
We know in this creation that our modern day science is included.
Science is factual, yes, but if you actually studied the bible, and knew it well you would see that the bible does not contradict science.

Why are you so - never mind - I don't want my answer reported!
Quit tearing down straw men! Come on already! You swallow a camel and strain at a gnat!
The Bible does NOT go against TRUE science, only pseudo, phony science.
For instance, when contemporary science said that the earth was like a giant flat pancake supported on the back of a giant elephant, on the back of a giant turtle, the Bible went against this so-called science, and talked about the spherical nature of the earth.
When science didn't know the first thing about the purpose of blood, the Bible told us that the LIFE of the flesh is carried by the blood.
When science thought that everything consisted of earth, wind, air and fire, the Bible talked about the invisible elements that we accept by faith. Now, of course, we don't need to accept it by faith, because it has been proven to be as the Bible declared.
Back in the book of Joel, in the famous "last-days" prophecies, the Hebrew text describes a mushroom cloud that destroys. The translators didn't understand this, so they talked about "pillars of smoke." Then, in the New Testament, talking about the last days, it says that the very powers of the heavens (Gr = "uranimos") shall be shaken, or you could say, the powers of uranium will be shaken, and it goes on to say that as a result, the very elements themselves will melt with a fervent heat!
It's not the Bible that's wrong, it's science when it's not accurate, that's wrong. The Bible, on the other hand, even though it's not a science book, it IS accurate when it DOES touch on the scientific, as indicated above.
Now, get your facts straight, and hang your head in shame for your folly! You really ought to be ashamed of yourself for questions like this!
I will say it again, but people don't believe in God because they don't WANT to believe in God, and they will find every excuse in the book why the Truths of the Bible don't apply to them. And it's all because they don't want to have to be morally accountable to a higher authority! Jesus said it like this, "People refuse to come to me because their deeds are evil."
