Each drivers contracts specify different amounts for different things. Just like Pro basketball and football players are all different. They have a base salary--percentage of winnings--performance bonuses--Sponsorship monies--Autograph sessions monies--Media access monies and on and on!!!!!!!

Typically, drivers get to keep the race purse. But that's nowhere near the whole story. If you read your local paper either Sun. or Mon. depending on when the race was run, you will notice that JJ who finished 12th made more money than Jamie McMurray who finished 4th. WHY IS THAT???? Sponsors kick in incentives for a driver to win the race. They count towards his earnings for the race. This benefits drivers who have big time sponsors much more than the rest of the field who have small sponsors. It's a vicious cycle of the the rich get richer while the poor get poorer. Owners are usually paid by the sponsor.

It depends on how the contract is written with the car owner a base salary is given then added incentives to win and sponsor money as well as any endorsements. I have herd numbers from 25 - 45 % of winnings go to the driver.

I don't know exactly how the money gets distributed but I do know that Junior made a statement on t.v. one time that he gets about half of the race winnings. I would like to hear what others have to say about it. That's all I know for now.

They get $10 dollars for every lap they finish and if they wreck the car they have to pay to have it repaired.
