In the US almost nothing. Hasn't been any real rehab since the 1950's. Prisons are overcrowded in most states and there is little money for rehabilitation work. They do not even teach a trade anymore. Prison is now just a gang recruitment place and a place to learn how to be a better criminal.
It does do good to the general public in the short run. Sending the really bad ones away from society does help, the problem is we also send the not so bad ones to the same prisons so the come out worse.

They have intense drug rehabilitation programs. Prepare to suffer through a lot of abuse by other inmates while in the classes. You can also learn a trade while in prison. I talked to a guy that claimed he got a bachelor of arts in history while doing 7 years in prison. I have heard it is really what you make of the situation. If someone wants to join a gang in prison, shank other inmates and C.O.'s in order to make a name for themselves they can do that. If I ever went I'd like to think I would keep to myself and try to get out as soon as I could though.

I worked six years as an inmate rehab program coordinator and they are offered a wide range of programming to help them reintigrate into society and to become responsible citizens. Programs inclute drug and alcohol abuse awareness and resistance, parenting skills, cognitive change, spiritual guidance, financial responsibility, GED, and many others. Some take advantage of them and others do not.
