Dear "Zalem" - I will give you an example. I grew up when a girl who wore glasses was considered "ugly". But from my early teens, I was very attracted to them, and considered them more "beautiful" when they wore them than when the didn't wear them - if you know what I mean.

Also -- I think of freckles as very beautiful.

Peoples ideas about beauty are going to be colored by their experiences. My mother placed a great deal of importance on physical beauty, the hair, the makeup, etc. But because she was so sick and mean I could only see her as ugly. The thought of her long, fake, painted nails still makes me shudder. As a result, I have a tendency to see people who focus their efforts on physical beauty as mean and truly ugly. I know this is a huge generalization. I am trying to overcome this...but it is an example to support my point.

There are different kinds of beauty, like beauty in nature, physical beauty, beauty of mind and spirit, beauty of a really good piece of pie!

I find beauty in nature sometimes in the massive grandeur of a canyon, a mountain range, the ocean, and other times in the beauty of the tiniest butterfly or flower. As far as physical beauty goes I have two words, Johnny Depp. Beauty of mind and spirit is a bit ephemeral, but I think most people know what I mean. And then there is pie......

The beauty that my eyes behold comes from within. Looks means nothing. Beauty is someone who is kind, honest, pious, hardworking, stands up for their beliefs, can agree to disagree, open minded, caring, and a productive member of society.

I don't "see" people's looks. I can't tell you how many people thought I was gay before I met my husband (nothing wrong with homosexuality, I'm just proving my point). For me, beauty is plain and simple, a desire to be good and do good in this world. I don't even notice people unless I notice their desire to have a positive influence on the world.

A man does not insist on physical beauty in a woman who builds up his morale. After a while he realizes that she is beautiful--he just hadn’t noticed it at first.

No no no no. You left a few letters out of that. It should have read "Beauty is in the eye of the BEERholder" Not beholder. LOL

without sounding too corny, beauty is whatever makes your heart feel filled. i have had this from certain people as well as works of art and photography. it is another word for awe. just hopefully in the matter of relationships lasts a bit longer than awe.

The beholder beholds and lo, there is beauty.
It is a reaction not a determination or a decision. "I could find myself bound in a nutshell and count myself King of infinite space."

it is a difficult question....I don't know and I can't think of something beautiful that most people think it is not.

Edit: does anyone for example think that a garbage dump is a beautiful place?.... I doubt it.

You don't decide - that would make beauty in the 'mind' of the beholder. You simply see - and like or don't like. It's in the eye.

Peace to you.
