What is hypothyroidism?

hypothyroidism can occur to anyone regardless of gender. Thyroid hormone is produced by the thyroid gland. Hypothyroidism is when the gland is functioning less than it should be (hence the term 'hypo') therefore producing reduced amounts of hormone.

There are quite a few causes of hypothyroidism from certain drug therapies to gland disorderes that I believe your doctor can tell you more about through the signs and symptoms that you show together with the lab report.

As thyroid hormone affects the metabolic rate, a decrease of it will lead to reduced metabolism therefore giving you (though not necessarily) symptoms like cold intolerance, constipation, cramps and general fatigue among many others

Hope this helps! :D

hypothyroidism is a thyroid gland disorder which usually occurs within women...i think only in women actually and it cannot be transmitted to men. anyways...the hypo means that the female has an over active thyroid gland...the gland that produces the hormone estrogen...and it can cause the thyroid gland to swell if untreated for years and years...it also causes a women to have unregular monthly cycles. it can be cured usually with medicine that the doctor prescribes. it's nothing scary really...you just have to go in for regular blood testing.
