Who Should Decide?
You are health care providers (doctors, nurses, technicians) in a transplant team. You only have one heart and a range of possible recipients on the donor list. Who gets the transplant? Explain who you believe deserves the heart. Be specific. What makes your candidate a priority over all others?

First of all, the transplant team DOES NOT get to decide. It is up to UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) to decide. Once it is decided that someone is brain dead and is an organ donor a list is generated by UNOS of all the possible matches. The person at the top of the list (usually the one who is the most sick) will be called first. The transplant team then will fly to wherever the heart is and decide if the heart is suitabe for the recipient. Sorry but I can't choose.

How about the one who is least likely to reject the heart? Start with the best immunological match. All the other factors are irrelevant. Hearts are too scarce to give them away based on anything other than best match.

It's not about age, or occupation it's about who meets the type matching the best and who is most likely to die if they don't get that heart....
