Ok, basically, I have an Uncle who believes alot of things differently. Yesterday I came to the realization of something.
it started with me being mad at my computer, then I thought, why was I mad at it, its a thing. Then I thought of kids and how angry they are. Then I thought, you know, are whole society is in a downfall. Then I thought, why? TV, Videogames, Movies, Music. I recently got rid of all my videogames and TV so I could personally grow. But then I took 1 step farther.
Last night I was talking to my parents about it, and how technology, tv and stuff, is destroying humans. I then led it into a religious side of it because I felt led to. Things like TV and movies teach this, stupidity is intelligence. Hatred is good. Sex is best outside of marraige. Swearing and taking God's name in vain is something thats funny. Killing people has no reprocussions. Lusting is fine. Breaking the law is legal. And reality is something you should hate.

So I asked this. Why is sin funny? My mom looked at me like, “I have no idea. I never thought of it like that.” Then I started elaborating on this. Explaining basically what I just did. It teaches that sin is good, and you and everyone else laughs at it. Thinking like this, shows all of a sudden have different meanings. When you ask, “Why do you like Two and a Half Men?” They give all these reasons. But, if you ask, “Why do you think sin is funny?” Suddenly it takes on a different meaning. And I used that show as an example cause right in the middle of the conversation my dad pops it on, right when I was talking to him, and immediately starts laughing. Then tells me to wait till hes done with the show. I was like, “Are you for real?” Then with that I ran with the whole thing.
When he was done, he came into the room and decided to join in the conversation. So I asked, why is sin funny?

? He started laughing so hard that my mom started laughing, then I started laughing cause I wasn’t expecting something so bizarre. I asked again, and he glanced at my mom, almost in hopes of help, suddenly it was serious. All of sudden he went on the defensive. Its not bad, you do the same thing, (which I don’t, but hes too busy watching tv to talk, and when he wants to talk Im too busy with stuff like sleeping.) So basically I got my parents to start question things they do. Then today, I talked to my uncle, Im closer to him then my dad. But, he challenges me more then my dad ever has mentally.
My dad has been one to give up in a fight and then complain that he can’t stand up with a quick witted mind. Then I ask about the bible and his beliefs, he complains he doesnt know anything about it.

So I start off with other questions, but I eventually work my way into saying, Watching stuff like Two and a Half Men is sin. They support immoral sex, swearing, lying, taking God’s name in vain, etc. Then he says, he doesnt support it by watching it. That if you stopped watching it no one would know or care, so hes no supporting it. He doesnt believe what the characters do is right, but the way they say things and make jokes is funny.
He then came up with, watching the news or reading about it is the same thing, so knowing whats going on is a sin. Then, working in construction is a sin cause its killing the earth. Driving is a sin. Eating food is a sin. Why? Cause when you buy food, the people that grew it were sinful, so your supporting sin. Then I get called a hypocrite for saying its different. Which it is. Then after about another hour, I made him think about things, but he still said I was on thin line and I needed to find proof.

He then got a call from a contractor that was saying the F word every other word, and taking God’s name in vain every other sentence. He said he can’t talk to him cause that would be supporting sin.
Basically heres what I need help finding.
1. Where in the bible does it say destroying the earth is a sin?
2. Where does it say that being around sin (watching TV), and supporting it, is a bad thing?
A. Also, where does it say to help sinners, but don’t support it? (Watching TV vs. talking to someone who does the same thing that TV characters do, basically heavy sin.)
3. Does it support watching things that are bad, playing rated M videogames, listening to

Eminem, etc?
4. Does the bible say God wants us to have fun, and even if its bad if it doesnt effect us that its OK?
Cause he uses this one and the destroying the earth excuse over and over. I get him into a place where I am right, then he flips it and says, “your destroying the earth, and the bible says thats a sin, ‘God will destroy those destroying the earth.’” Or, in other conversations, Playing rated M videogames, watching rated R movies, etc, isnt going to condemn you. God doesn’t really care about it.
So can anyone help me? I have changed my own way so that I am no a hypocrite. Then to be called on something I haven’t heard of, frustrates me. The only reason, I have no proof on the contrary so the argument dies because with him, if you can’t prove something, then your side is worthless. But, it does help me, cause it forces me to study harder so I can become better and better at defending my points and beliefs.

Thank for those of you who tried to help. But most made a joke about something serious, like always.
First, God made sin and everything in the world. We were created perfect at the beginning. Because of a choice, we became imperfect. God is perfect, he created perfection and imperfection. It says he created sin and everything evil as well. But you have to remember, we are humans, he is God, he is on a different level and by no means can he be placed by the same standards. He created the rules, we follow.
I am not reading in to this too much. And for you information I pay no attention to the media. I haven't watched TV for many months, even before I learned things. I never had a use.
I found some verses myself, like
Psalms 101:3. I will place nothing wicked before my eyes, I hate the work of those who fall away, it shall not cling to me.
Doesnt this verse itself say that most TV is bad, especially shows? Everything is immoral anymore, yet its ok to watch it? No

Yes, ive read parts of the Quran, I have read parts of the book of mormon who say the same thing about their religion, the pearl of great price, doctrine and covanents, etc. I found errors in the Quran, I found errors in the book of mormon, but the Bible I haven't found errors. And your right, there is only 1 version. I do the NKJV cause its closest to the original text, but I also have access to a bible that is the exact translation so I can compare back and forth if something doesnt make sense.
Look deeper into the Quran, question it. Its not the correct one.

I don't know how old you are but you are my hero!
I have a lot of admiration for you, standing up for your beliefs in the midst of adversity.
God desires us to live a holy life- we are flesh but God says to be Holy as He is Holy! It is through the Holy Spirit that we are able to do this but ultimately it is our choice- we are either going to live a life sanctified and set apart for the Lord, living a life of purity and not making an excuse for what we know is sin , not supporting blasphemy by watching or participating in activities that glorify hatred, fornication, taking the Lord's name in vain, etc.
The problem for us comes when those in the world, and even many Christians do not have the self control to remove themselves from the lusts of the flesh - they tend to puff up with pride, justify what they are doing wrong and point the finger at those who are making an effort to live a life of purity. Remember we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but the principalities and powers of the enemy who seeks only to steal, kill and destroy. So here you are walking in the way of the Lord- being obedient to His commands and choosing to keep in purity- of course the enemy is going to use someone to plant seeds of self doubt and condemnation. Remember there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus- if you are doing something wrong, the Holy Spirit will convict you- the only one you are accountable to is God and the only thing you are accountable for is whether you obeyed Him or not. The word says "I will turn my eyes from worthless things" You have, in obedience , done that- your walk with hte Lord is precious to you and you will reap the blessings of obedience. Unfortunately you will also have to have patience with those who do not have a walk with the Lord and out of the rebellion of their own hearts will allow the enemy to use them as tools, as stumbling blocks to the believer. Do not be discouraged and count it joy to to be persecuted for the name of Jesus, do not allow one who is not walking in the light to cause you self doubt and condemnation- Jesus does not bring condemnation but conviction.
Those who indulge in sin will encourage others to sin and gnash their teeth at those who choose to walk in purity.
You do not need an argument or a means to justify yourself- those that have ears to hear and eyes to see wil see and hear, otherwise you are casting your pearls before swine.
Your dad is saying all these things to trip you up, not because he wants to know and walk in the truth- do not answer a fool accordingto his folly - the arguments he presented are foolishness- you ahve already told him the truth and he has rebelled- now it is time for you to stand strong in oyur own walk and pray for him , for his heart to be softened and for him to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus and for him to desire a precious walk with the Lord. You are justified in Christ, you have no need to labor to justify yourself.
Continue walking in the Lord, reading your word and be encouraged, growing in strength and wisdom and may God bless you and use you in a mighty way to bless others.

The Seven Deadly Sins:
Lust
Gluttony
Greed
Sloth
Wrath
Envy
Pride
They get used everyday. Its fun. Without pride people would let other people walk all over them.
Without envy we'd all be the same, and that's no fun.
Sloth what's wrong with being lazy, its good for reguvinating the body.
Greed well that we can live without, but then again it keeps the balance of the world in check.
Gluttony is what makes most of america suffer from obesity so its not really good, enless you are starving in a country that has not alot of food provisions.
And finally Lust, is just plain fun. Lust is like love at first sight. Its poetic.
Without them the whole balance of the world get thrown out of whack.
We can't have too much good, and too much evil. But we do need evil. Without it comes Utopia which is very evil. With Utopia if you are not in the standards you simply dissapear. Ying Yang is real.

I think you are over-analysing this a bit. Even before television, radio, video games etc. there were lots and lot of 'sinful' things taking place in society. Same things that are happening now really, sex outside of marriage, violance etc. just a different setting. Why do these things happen? Well no one knows really, perhaps the best explanation is just flawed human nature.
Most comedies on television simply take real life things and portray them in a comedic way, to bring a comic releif to people's lives. I honestly don't think that anyone who watches Two and a Half Man (I hate that show actually!) would suddenly get up and go "Wow that looks awesome! I so should try doing that in my life!". People just watch it to escape their real life problems, rather than learn any life lessons from it.
And is violence on television always a bad thing? There is a bit of a moral panic created around this topic by the media, but that's all it is really a moral panic. In the past when there were no TV's the world (Western world anyway) was a far more violent place.
Personally to me watching shows like Cold Case (a crime investigation drama series, but aimed more at women than men in my opinion as it deals with a lot of emotional things) provokes me to think, feel, what it doesn't provoke me to do is go out and kill someone. I don't agree with what you said about TV teaching people that killing people has no reprocussions, i think most things on television teach the opposite.
Before television there was theatre, books. And i, by no means, believe that all of man made fiction is sinful. Of course some is, but it's a small percentage.
I think you are simply buying the media created moral panic about the today's world and what it's coming to, personally i don't think anything particulary bad, nothing that hasn't happened before (in a broad sense) is happening today.
And last but not least, why would God gave one a creative mind if he didn't want him/her to use it to write, film, produce things? If people just thought about whether or not they are sinning each time they wanted to do something the world would stop, period.
Hope this helps :)
You don't have to watch TV to get a sence of moral panic from the media, the media is everywhere (unless you go somewhere where there is absolutely nothing human made (in modern time) and no people). You get this moral panic from everything, most of it subconciously. And by far not everything on television is immoral, mostly it just reflects our life, as imperfect as it is. But those imperfections were still there before television, so television is not the cause of them. You seem very young and idealistic, things are not always black and white, most are grey actually.

The LORD is leading you son.
Watching the news to see what is going on and how it may affect you and the ones you love is a FAR cry from watching perversion for ENTERTAINMENT.
Watching a news report to EDUCATE you so you will know what you should be planning is different than sitting down and watching adultery and garbage being glorified which is destroying our nation.
There really is little redeeming value in television and movies.
As far as construction you can stand all of earth's population in miami and there'd still be plenty of room left.
As far as pollution goes we can work on that.Food?
We HAVE to eat.If a person over eats that is a sin, but then if they starve themselves to be skinny thats a sin too.
Not all fat people over eat.
Is driving an ambulance a sin?
Driving to go to work to support yourself and family?
That is something else we can work on, we have to use what we have for the moment. Entertainment though, It all leads away from GOD.If you get the chance, read John 3:1-5 and Acts 2:38.
Keep praying and seeking GOD.

In Genesis 1:26, it says that God gave man dominion over the earth. This however, is not a priveledge to abuse. We must remember that to destroy the earth is destroying God's creation. Also, how much sin can one possibly wittness before it starts to corrupt us? For instance, if you hang out with a bunch of people who swear, how long will it be before you start to cuss now and then? How can you watch a trashy movie when it says in Matthew 5:28 "that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart"? In 1st Corinthians 10:32 it says not to cause anyone to stumble, could something that you're watching or a game that you're playing do that? The question to ask is 'how much ungodly influence is too much?' and where will you draw the line?

When I realized I wanted to spend the rest of my life with my husband I felt love and lust. The two feelings are often intermingled but they are different feelings and often exist independent of each other. But in the case of romantic relationships, love and lust go together. Even more interesting in terms of this sin business is that after 11 years of being with my husband I still feel lust towards him - I can not understand how that would be a bad thing. We have a child, we have a home and a life together. Shouldn't we look at each other and feel both lust and love? That seems like a good thing.

Gods word says not to get involved in worldly things. So you should not be watching some of the tv shows that are on. You should not be listening to some of the music that is on the radio. Sex before marriage is a sin. GOD did make perfect people, all they had to do is follow the rules that he set. Satan talked them into going against all that is right, which is why we are in this mess now.

You can enter a word and search for it.
Remember, the definition for sin is that sin is all unrighteousness. As you progress, you will see more things in their "true" light and discover how subtle sin is in this world.
The thing with sin is that if one continually allows sinful thoughts or media to be present, then one's guard is being torn down and eventually temptation will win. Watching thought continually is a must for protection from being used.
Does the bible say God wants us to have fun, and even if its bad if it doesn't effect us that its OK?
God wants His ideas to realize they must not look elsewhere for anything, such as joy, peace, love, fun, happiness, harmony, good, guidance, and so on.
Why do people love sin? The mind of God does not love sin, but condemns it. We were taught to "let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ (may not be exact quote)" so we know from this command that the true man has no other mind than that of God, so this other lower form of a so called mind IS something to be overcome, because only it loves sin, but not the man that God created, which is spiritual and eternal, even sinless man.
You have a good sense of things right now and are going in the right direction.

Read the Bible. Any questions you have can be answered and found in the Bible. It is your armor against the devil and his schemes. That is why we Christians read our (NIV) Bible daily so that we may protect ourselves from the wicked.
Remember, sin may be funny to the sinners, but it is the Lord who will have the last laugh.
Psalm 37:13 (NIV)
but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.

Sin is fun because it offers momentary satisfaction to the fallen nature of man, who is separated from God, so therefore man's nature is not godly and its desire is for the things of the world which is corrupt.
The natural man is soulish, sensual, earthy, and does not savor the things of God. Only when a man's spirit has been born again of the spirit of God does he look to that which is from above, those things that bring glory to God.

Sin can't be avoided-the Bible states that all people are sinners-and the penalty for sin is death. Fortunately, you can be saved be being baptized in your church. Remember though, just because you're baptized doesn't make you a Christian. You can't just "talk the talk" (say you are a Christian) but you have to "walk the walk" (act like you are a Christian in your everyday life, tell others about God, etc)
