It is more common for a person to have a 'one-sided' version of bipolar. It's the hardest to deal with when it's combined with mania and depression. The mania is a big part of it, so yes when there is only one side of bipolar symptoms it could still be categorized as bipolar disorder.

Yes, I was mostly on the depressed side of the spectrum. The mania came out when the docs started me on the anti-depressants. Its entirely possible for a person to operate mostly in the upper end of the mood spectrum and still actually be bipolar. It can be a very bad experience to swing to the other end of the spectrum that first time. No coping skills and etc.

This is possible it sounds as if you are what is called a "fast cycler" I hope that you are taking the medications that you need for Bi-Polar. You may want to talk to your psychiatrist about your anti-psychotic medication. The one you have now may be the wrong one for you or you may need your dosage adjusted. The manic phase is the easiest one to treat and prevent. Unfortunately after a manic episode it immediately follows with the severe depession. There is help in preventing this from happening to you. Some people require a higher dosage than the average. I hope that this is the answer to your problem and that you will recover quickly with help>

I think you need to ask someone qualified to answer this question. Like a doctor who specializes in mental illness.
