Dentistry has come a long way. I hate needles and pain too. But once the root canal is done you don't ever have to feel any pain in that tooth again. It's part of growing up. If you took good care of your teeth earlier years, you would have less tooth problems today. It's normal to worry but you'll get thru this. Good luck.

I got my first one when I had two little kids in the house. I was afraid of the pain, and being a pain around my kids, so I grabbed a six pack and went out to the lake. I climbed into my boat, and went out to the middle of the lake with my six pack. I opened the first one, and it dribbled down my lip, which was still numb. By the time I started my third one, I discovered I wasn't numb any more, and it still didn't hurt! I went home and was fine. The second one didn't bother me at all, some five years later.

You will get a local anesthetic (Big Needle to numb you) and they will inject that needle a few times to really get it in there good...so you won't be able to feel your mouth at all. It will hurt pretty bad...and you will make a noise! After that there is allot of drilling...and the smoke will puff into your face...tooth powder smoke. The dentist may yell at you to "Be still" so don't move at all...ask the dentist if he has a pair of headphones and put on some disco music.
Good Luck!

They'll give you something for the pain... personally, I have never had it done but have known people that have been through it--of course, it's not the most pleasant thing, but it's better than losing all of your teeth--but I've heard that it's not as bad as some people try to make it out to be. Good luck, and try to not be so worried.

When you are getting your teeth pulled or drilled into....sort of meditate. Focus all your thinking on your tooth. Close your eyes and imagine your brain sending all of your pain into the ground and away forever. And also, sort of enjoy the pain. Think about how life is about not worrying about the journey but enjoying it all thw while. Hope this helps.

My sister got a root canal a while ago, shes 20 now. She got sick for like a week. She said it didn't hurt at all. The dentists were speaking casually and she was listening and then she was injected (same thign with me) and didn't even notice it.

Its not as bad as you think. Just close your eyes when they give you a shot. The shot doesnt hurt very much just dont look at it. After the shot, you wont feel much. Once your done, you can take advil or any other pain killer should work. It will just be a little sore. Dont worry so much...its not as bad as you think.

hey i understand your pain i was 16 when i got my root canal, trust me it wont hurt maybe the needles to numb the gum and tooth but other then that you will feel nothing if done right.
they will drill a hole in your tooth then put these little rod looking things in and out one by one u will feel like they are riping it out of your head like pressure but trust me nothing to worry, you wont need pain killers cause there will be no root there. trust me you will be fine
good luck tomorrow.

i've had one done on a front tooth - they inject painkillers so you wont feel anything, but occasional twinges (you can feel it, but it soesnt hurt) you shouldnt need serious painkillers, so off the shelf is fine, but you might get phantom pain for a week or so.
