I am going into the marine corps in a few months and am trying to figure out what MOS I want. I will be talking to my recruiter about it soon to decide, but I just want to learn as much as I can about my choices before hand so I have some more time to really think about it. I scored really high on the mechanics portion of the ASVAB, I have always been fascinated with figuring out how things work and thinking of ways to make them better, I am interested in aviation mechanics, vehicles in general, weapons in general especially the type of things they show on the show future weapons. I think I would rather develope weapons and helicoptes/jets and stuff for the military rather than fixing them, so I figured I'd like to be an engineer but I don't know what kind of engineers there are to choose from. What would a recruit do after boot camp if he chose engineer for his MOS?

Okay what you are looking at becoming is a 1341 engineer equipment mechanic. Basically you will go to boot camp for 3 months then go home for 10 days then go to 2 weeks of MCT Marine Combat training in either California or N.C. depending on where you are from. After that you will go to Ft. Leonardwood Mo for MOS school I beleive its about 8 weeks I cant remember. Then you will go to your duty station. You will work on bulldozers and other engineering equipment. Diesel Engines and alot of different equipment. Make sure as you train to fix them you also try to get licensed on all the gear if you want to get out after your enlisment you can get a really good job. Good Luck. Pretty Good MOS alot of good stuff and depending on your duty station alot of good training. Good Luck

Mostly clean latrines, pull a little guard duty and help out in the mess hall if you don`t have a degree. If you have an engineering degree don`t waste it in the military. IF you don`t have one you won`t get one in the military unless you go to West Point or the Naval Academy. You can do a certain amount of time in the military and they will pay for your Tuition at an accredited college or university when you get out and it`s possible to pick up a few college credits while you are on active duty. Your recruiter can fill you in on that. In general if you are not an engineer when you go in you want be one when you get out.

If you want to be an engineer in the Marine Corps you'll need to go to college. There are plenty of options (ROTC most schools, Naval Academy, etc). So basically you go to college for free, get an engineering degree, and become an officer in the USMC.
If you go straight to boot camp you will be fixing stuff for the next five years. You can always go to school after that though. Good luck!

while it is possible to have more than one MOS, it will NOT be permitted for you to have them both at the same time. you would go to AIT for one, complete your inital ienlistment contrcat and MAYBE be allowed to get a different MOS when you re enlist. as for working out with a recruiter before hand: they are NOT obligated to do so. ever, besides right now it is taking 6-9 months minimum to be able to ship out to Basic training/boot camp anyway. you have pretty mnuch wasted th elast 6 months. you COULD have been in already by now.
