Samhain is a celebration of life. You can feel the energy just bouncing off everything. Some say it is about death, but death and life are only two sides of the same coin, and death must bring life and life death. You see it in the eager faces of kids out trick or treating . in the way everyone gets revved up to party or at least pig out on candy (i don't care who you are, you're at least gonna eat a candy bar). In ancient times this was a wonderful time of year, a time to relax a bit. the harvests were in the home is ready for the winter, but it hasn't actually hit yet so you actually get to have fun for a while. and yes, i believe that the "veil" is thinner for some reason during this time, perhaps it is because everyone is so happy or maybe it is the energy that makes everyone happy?

Samhain is Gaelic for Summer's End. The ancient Celts believed it was the end of Summer and the beginning of Winter (they didn't recognize Autumn originally). It is a day of endings, a day of beginnings. It is the day outside of time and the Celtic new year. It marks the final harvest and reminds us of the coming season. It is a time when the veil between worlds is thin, and spirit world and physical world can more easily interact. It is a time to remember those who walked before us, ancestors and loved ones lost recently.

To me Samhain is a time for reflection. To recall the past, look to the future, and remind myself of the Path I have chosen.

It is a wonderful time to dance in the midst of the Goddess and God.

Happy Samhain, Blessed Be.

Samhain is the day we honor loved ones who have past on. Yes, it involves acknowledging death, but as part of the natural cycle, not the horror movie stuff most people are familiar with. At its core, Samhain is a day of memorial.

For me its a day for family. We have a nice dinner then trick or treat with my grandkids. (I don't get to spend alot of time with my grandkids, so its special)

Then I do home with my son and we do ritual together. I have this little cage candle holder that holds a tealight candle. I light it at the beginning of the our evening. I used it to symbolize the passing of things, at Samhain it symbolizes the passing of the old year to the new via the final puff of smoke as it goes out.

I love my Samhain altar...its my best one. With pictures of my Mom and Dad. How I miss them both. We take the time do talk about them...telling my son stories of their lives. We end the night together by setting one goal for the New Year.

Then when he goes to bed, I will do divination for the New Year and make a few plans. By now that little candle I lit at the beginning of the night has burned out. And with that last puff of smoke the old year with it. My blessings, thoughts and prayers go through the veil with the smoke until next year.

I make sure that it is completely out and all is fire safe, and head off to bed myself, with their love and spirits always with me.

Blessings,
Aviana

I'm a Celtic Pagan. For me it's New Year-a time to try and give up bad habits and a time to set goals for the coming year.

Also the time for honouring the ancestors.

And finally the start of winter.
