. . . I'm new to the whole being an enviornmentalist deal... so if anyone can school me on how to get started in making some entry-level changes in my life for now, that would be great. Or some basic do's and dont's, or, well, anything at this point. Thanx!

Dos: recycle, turn of the water when you brush your teeth, turn off lights when you leave the room, buy environmentally friendly cleaners, unplug unused electronics (yes, they even use electricity when they're just plugged in), compost

Don'ts: drive just becasue you feel like it (only get in the car when you have to go someplace), litter

There's so much more, but these are some very entry level changes...try them...feel them...make them habbits. Good luck, it's a hard change, but it's well worth it!

I agree with EST, but here are a couple more small things to do too. Fill your car later in the evening and don't top off. Reuse your pastic bags, recycle. Don't just turn your water off when brushing your teeth, but even when your lathering up in the shower. Drippy faucets fix them, spend a little extra on light bulbs(the spiral ones) they use way less electricity and last alot longer. Find out if your city has alternative energy sources, Oklahoma now has a choice between normal electricity and wind power. Between hers and mine that is definitly a good start.

1) Go vegetarian or vegan. Meat contributes more to global warming than all the transportation in the world, according to the U.N.

2) Carry reusable bags with you to the grocery store. If you end up needing a bag, use plastic (takes less energy to ship, I've heard) and find another use for it. I use them to carry my lunch to work.

3) If you live in a city with transit, use it. If you drive, combine your trips. Find a fuel-efficient vehicle.

4) I do NOT recommend compact fluorescent bulbs anymore because of the mercury issue.

5) Don't buy bottled water. Carry your own reusable bottle and fill it with water at home.

6) Buy fair trade whenever possible.

Bring your own canvas or paper bags to the supermarket - plastic bags are very bad for the planet! and don't take a bag for something small that can easily be held!

Start thinking GREEN. Educate yourself, many people still don't realize we need balance on this planet. When we cut down trees for homes and don't replace the trees we are in big trouble later on. If we destroy the rain forest we are upsetting the balance of nature. Please check my ref.
