Where can i find this kind of software?

I want a software where i can record my voice like to record my notes and load it into my thumbdrive to play it in mp3 player or ipod. I want to store all my study audiomaterial so that i dont have to go thru books everytime.Please provide any links where i can download such kind of software.

Audacity, it records in addition to edits

Or just use a physical recorder that also has a USB port, like the ones Olympus or Sony makes.
