...Like when you get your tray of food and everyone in line stares at your tray as you walk by. It gets on my nerves for some reason. I'm not hiding anything (I don't get an abnormally small or large amount of food. I'm not bulimic or obese). Is it a primal instinct (protective of food)? Or is it a signal of a mental problem? I don't mind eating with people who are looking at my food at the same table, it's just people walking past that look at my food who get on my nerves.

Maybe it's just only you who's putting a negative impact on that. They are looking at your tray because your food may look interesting or pleasing to the eye. They were not judging you. In my case , if I stare at someone else's plate, it's giving me an urge to get exactly the same thing someone else's get. I am just curious what to eat and somebody is giving me an idea. I am not interested at the person, i am at the food, it gives me some kind of appetite.

Yes, just like people having to check out everything you have at the Grocery store. Next time I'm going to grab a 12 pack of beer, The swim suit issue of a sports mag, some KY jelly, Condoms, The biggest cucumber, some paper towels and some cigarettes to see how people react.

I think it is just natural CURIOSITY! : )
I think looking at what someone else chooses to eat is simply part of human nature. For example, in a restaurant, I sometimes look to see what others are eating: If it looks really yummy, it may affect what I am going to order, too! : )

In the line you are in, perhaps others are noticing how good your lunch looks... or thinking "I wish I had gotten that, too!"
It is possible that you notice it only because you see it happening to you --- but chances are, a lot of people are looking at a lot of OTHER people's plates, too!
:)

Eating is one thing that we ALL have in common & as long as people are not making rude comments, then I see that it is just a normal thing! : ) : )

Maybe see if people are looking at everyone elses, food too! ; )

I know what you are saying, it doesn't bother me that much, the same happens when shopping in a supermarket, people become very protective of their selections, its crazy really, everything is up there on the shelf but when its in your trolley you dont like people looking almost like they may be able to work out what your life is all about.

Interesting, psyhcological issue, I must research this one

If I am standing in line yes. If I am being waited on, I know sometimes others will looks to see what is good. Staring is just impolite.

That does annoy me. On a similar note, I was grocery shopping today and some lady stood right in front of me where I couldn't go by, scrutinized everything in my basket, and asked me where I found one of the items that I had. That irritated me as well.

I don't like it when ANYONE looks at my food!... I think it's totally primal cause the first thought in my head is "It's MINE!"... don't ask me for a bite!

The next thing I HATE is when you've taken a mouthful and they ask you "how is it?"

Not really, but I do get annoyed when people stare at me while I am eating. Even more so when that person refuses to eat!

Okay.....you must be very young, teenager? I've got more important things on my mind. If someone was looking at my food, I probably wouldn't even notice. Who cares!

No I don't.

Most likely they want to see what the food looks like and if they want to get it or not.
