I have nothing against immigrants, not in the least.

That is until, they can't speak proper english. The fact that I have to take three years of Spanish to accomodate people who came to this country for a better life for themselves, some of which aren't even TRYING to learn the language, is appalling.

They say I need to be able to speak Spanish to get a better job? NO. THEY need to learn ENGLISH to be able to communicate in America.

I never thought I would feel this way, but I do agree with you. The lenient laws of this country has allowed this to happen. I work with people who now openly talk about how they came here illegally, married an American, and just like that, they can stay!! After that, they all petition for grandma, grandpa, sisters, brothers, etc. Oh yes, and now they complain the immigration laws are too harsh. How about working in a place where speaking english is the exception!!

I was waiting at the local drug store to pick up my prescription and in front of me was an older man who spoke English, but he refused to ask any questions in English and none of the techs spoke Spanish. He just waited in the line and held it up until they pulled some person out of the back to answer his questions. He understood what the American tech told him but did not want to leave until he heard the same thing in Spanish. The line was not happy with this man, and there were many people who said things about Spanish who refuse to use or learn the American language.

I don't think that the values of all immigrants are the same. Much like the values and morals of U.S. citizens are not the same. There are good people who have respect for themselves and others, and then there are not-so-good people out there that behave in a manner that some see as inappropriate, ignorant and rude at times. This is everywhere! Not just in the United States. People are people and the world takes all kinds.
