I applied in the Navy to work as an Arabic English interepter and they told me they will never send me to any war zones (Iraq or Afganistan) the told me i will stay in the united states only for my job plus short trips on the ship but i am worried they lie to me and i want to know the possiblity that they will force me to go there after a while so please if anyone knows anything about this send me back (please if you don't know exactly don't give me guesses) thanks a lot!

Recruiters, for the most part, will tell you anything to get you to sign on the dotted line.

I am assuming that you are applying to be a CTI, which is a cryptologic linguist. There are positions for thos jobs stateside, of course, but there is NO WAY that they can guarantee that you will never have to go to Iraq or Afganishtan. I am a Spanish Linguist who works in a joint service station in the states, and I know plenty of Navy linguists who have deployed over here.

I am Air Force, but like I said, my target language is Spanish... I NEVER thought I would be sent over here, but here I am (for a year, too, not one of those "short trips" like they are telling you about). I am here because I have a security clearance... with your security clearance and your language skills, rest assured that you will be over here at some point

as a civilian or as a CTI? Civilians will not be sent to combat zones. CTIs may be,

CTIs ONLY Get shore duty, they will never be PCS Afloat but they do deploy..either on ships, subs or in the Air Wings.

and those short trips? average about 6-9 months long at sea and 12 months on land.
