These people who are telling you that you should be baptized by your own choice.... you need to ask them a few questions.

First, ask them if there is anything within you that can bring you to salvation, or is it purely God's work in you?

The only correct answer is that salvation is purely God's work in you. If they answer differently, they are preaching a false gospel.

Once you have established with them that salvation is purely God's work in you, ask them this question:

Given that it is purely by God's work that you are saved, how can a baptism that you choose for yourself truly symbolize an inner transformation that only God could perform? Doesn't the very idea of you choosing baptism for yourself contradict the fact of salvation being an act on God's part?

Whatever answer they give, it will evade the real question. Do not let them off the hook. Demand that they resolve this contradiction. I believe you will find that they cannot, because the answer is that baptism is not something you choose for yourself--scripturally, it is a thing given to you for your salvation.

You are already a Christian. Stay away from churches that would tell you otherwise.

The Catholic Church is the first, and original, Christian Church. They are the very inventors of Christianity. They wrote the rules, they made the foundations and the doctrines of Christianity. They are the original Christian church.

Others who came along later, and changed those things are no longer Christians, as it was invented by the Catholic Church. They are now something else. Maybe a FORM of Christianity, but they are no longer Christians as defined by the Catholic Church when it invented Christianity.

So, if you want to be an original Christian, please continue on the path in the Catholic Church. If you want to be another form of Christianity that's different from the original Christianity invented by the Catholics, then go with one of the Protestant churches.

P.S. Im not Catholic, Im Jewish.

EDIT: You shouldn't say you're Catholic but now attending a Christian church, because this makes no sense. Catholics ARE Christians, they are the ORIGINAL Christians.

Instead, you should say you're Catholic but now attending a Protestant church.

There are two main branches of Christianity:
Catholics, and Protestants. Within the Protestant branch are many different types, such as Baptist, Methodist, etc.

Protestants came about when some Catholics rebelled and left the Catholic Church and made their own form of Christianity. They changed the original Christian religion into something else for themselves.

So what you're doing is leaving the original Christianity (the Catholic Church) for another form of Christianity (a Protestant Church).

Are you not aware that you are already Christian? Are you trying to say that you want to worship in Protestant churches instead? there is no problem doing that I am a former Protestant myself but be aware that the Protestant churches do not have the promises of Christ or the fullness of truth as is contained in Christ's Church. In any case, if you leave the ark of His Church you will always be welcomed home to His Church. God bless you on your journey.

Armando,

If I understand you correctly you are attending a Christian church other than the Catholic Church and desire to have a second Baptism. Don't you think that this would be an insult to God who has already through His grace washed you of your sins, so that you are born again and welcomed you into the kingdom of God and His Church. The Bible teaches one Baptism not many because His grace at your initial salvation is sufficient and starts you on the path to sanctity and righteousness to final salvation.

This doesn't even deserve an answer.

Anyone with half a brain, already knows that the Catholic faith is the first christian faith.

In other words, you are already a christian. If you want to convert to a different sect go ahead.

Catholics are Christians. They are the largest and original Christian faith started by the Christ himself! Jesus becomes truly and literally present in the Holy Eucharist (Holy Communion)!!

Chatolics are Christians. There are many different Christian religions professing Jesus Christ as lord and savior. You must be involved with some fake fundamental group that doesn't want to reveal its true sect affiliation.

You are already a Christian who has already had more than a fundamentalist will have in their entire life. You have received Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Why do you want to hurt his feelings like this?

YES!!!! If you admit that you are a sinner, believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and rose from the dead three days later, and call upon Him, asking Him to forgive your sins and accepting His free gift of salvation, then the Bible says YOU WILL BE SAVED!!!! Because salvation is through faith in Christ and not through works, there is no point where you can go where God won't accept you. Romans 10:9 says that "if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." If you have done this, you have no reason to doubt the assurance of your salvation, the Bible says 'you WILL be saved', not 'you might be saved', or 'Jesus will have to run a background check before He lets you be saved', it says you WILL. Ephesians 2:8-9 says "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." Because you cannot earn your salvation on your own, you can become a Christian no matter what kind of background you're from, plain and simple.
