I am naturally a bit shy person & have trouble socializing with people. There are some activities and groups I would like to join & make some friends, but i am a bit worried becase I fear if the members of those groups will insult me or make fun of me....
but I reallty want to join those groups...what can I do to avoid getting a humiliated first impression?

If you are joining a group there must be a reason - like you think you will enjoy the activity. The other people in the group also enjoy that activity, so when you first start out with a new group, focus on the activity, rather than the other people (don't ignore the other people, just don't worry about them or be intimidated by them). Keep the conversation light and focused on the activity - also people who are good conversationalists are actually good listeners. Groups centered on common activities are a great why for shy people to get out and socializing - it worked for me.

people go to these activity groups to have fun not to insult others. Why would they insult you?
you look hot to me! if thats you photo.
just go for it you'll probably have tones of fun and forget to be shy!

first day everyone is a bit disoriented and looking for how to settle in
find someone that you can help and focus on facilitating their comfort and you will forget about yours and make a friend in the process

Try to find commen interests with these people.
like music, books, telivision, stores, etc.
