All Saints Day. It was before that All Hallows Day, then All Hallows Eve. It was a Catholic Tradition that started up with moving the animals into the barns for shelter for the winter. It also celebrated the harvest. Trick or Treating is thought to come from when Catholics would go from house to house asking for small cakes in return for a prayer for those in the house who had died. It was believed their prayers would help them move on to heaven (Catholics believe in pergatory).

Yes, I believe that May 13th used to be all saints day, then they changed it to be November 1st, which was already the day of the dead celebrated by pagans. People have always wanted to remember the dead, a memorial for those loved ones that we have lost. I can't remember when they changed the date, but I'm sure you can find it online if you look.

I get it. You know that pan-theon means all gods. But all hallows means all saints in modern English. Not the same thing at all.

All Saints' Day. In older times it was known as "All Hallow's Day." The day before was "All Hallow's Eve," and the evening before was "All Hallow's E'en." Guess what word we got from that? :)
