Jesus' own words tell us how he felt about exalting Mary above others:
Luke 11:27-28, "...a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. But he said, YEA RATHER, BLESSED ARE THEY THAT HEAR THE WORD OF GOD, AND KEEP IT".
God's word has the answer to every question. Isn't our God an AMAZING GOD!!!!

We worship God and Him alone. Worshiping anyone or anything else is idolatry, and that is forbidden by the Bible and the Church. We honor Mary because she is a beautiful Christian role model. She was humble (something you and your fellow Baptists could stand to learn), brave, loving, compassionate, obedient, and a woman of meditation and prayer. We also honor her because the Bible tells us that she will be called "Blessed" by all generations. She risked her life and her reputation to bring our Savior into this world, and for that alone, she deserves our gratitude and respect. Finally, you owe every Catholic in this Forum an apology for your arrogance toward your Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ. You ask a question, but before anyone can answer it, you tell us what you think that Catholicism teaches. I resent being accused of blasphemy. . . especially by someone who doesn't know his blessed assurance from a hole in the ground about what Catholics really believe and do.

Well, I actually believe this depends on where you live. Here, in Texas, we have a lot of hispanics, who are really devoted to Mary. We often have celebrations and holidays devoted to her, because in Mexico, she is a huge icon for the Catholic religion. Mary, a virgin, gave birth to the Son of God, so I think we find that as kind of a big thing..... Yes, we do appreciate John the Baptist just as much, I just think we have less celebrations for Him.

I think the mother of God is more important than a cousin of God. Mary is the Queen of heaven and earth. She bore Jesus for nine months making her the first living tabernacle. She taught Jesus most of the things He knew. She was His closest friend and ally on earth. She took care of Him and protected Him as a child with St. Joseph. She is the Immaculate Conception meaning she was preserved from all stain of sin. She never sinned. She never displeased God. She was the perfect apostle. She fulfilled the Will of God perfectly and is the coredemptrix. Because she said "yes" to the will of God, our redemption was made possible. All graces of God come to us through Mary. She is the mediatrix of all graces. She is queen of the angels and the angels obey her. Her intercession is very powerful because she is the mother of God. Jesus or God usually grants her requests because Jesus is obedient to His mother and loved and still loves her very much. We love her because we imitate her Son who loved her on earth and in heaven. We also venerate St. John the Baptist, but he is not as great as Mary the Immaculate Mother of God. He was not preserved from original sin. He was not conceived Immaculate. Many miracles have been attributed to Mary. Her power is from God. She was very humble and she crushed the head of the serpent. Thus, she has great power against satan and the devils.

You forgot the rest of the verse: "yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he."
We honor Mary as the Mother of God. There is no other person who can claim this title. She is the flesh God used to clothe his own son in flesh. St. John the Baptist was the prophet...Mary is the Blessed Mother, the New Eve.

Jon M, true lovers of Christ don't venerate him, they worship him.
True lovers of Christ don't venerate John the Baptist either. Name one traditional Presbyterian or Baptist who venerates anyone who isn't God in the Bible.
Thank you for demonstrating your ignorance of what other massive denominations - right in front of your face - believe.
And about that gay jonjon who stupidly, keeps thinking he can win after being refuted over and over (get real man):
"You got 'em!"
And you didn't!
Yes jonjon, who I repeatedly defeat, he did. So you mock in jealousy because your insecure self didn't think of it. Petty of you eh? Stop diving for back pats from losers, get a life.
"Expect massive conversions to whatever your denomination is."
1. Expect massive conversions to whatever brand of atheist denomination you're apart of.
2. Who said that is what he was expecting that? Get a clue mocker. Guess what slow guy, if you had known his denomination you would have known that our denomination does not expect massive conversions. DURRRRRRRRRRRR. TALK ABOUT EATING UR OWN STUPID ASSUMPTION. That's atheists for you, not scientists, not researchers, not truthful witnesses, but babbling, assuming show offs, who love to waste time being stupid hypocrites.
"I could quote 'Of all women you are the most blessed' (Luke1:28-42), if I felt like arguing in this way. But don't you find this kind of argument really petty?"
1. Petty guy who can't think straight says what? See above.
2. Of all the women you are most blessed = you are sinless and a perpetual virgin? DUR. Learn English and stop being a gullible opinion-bashing dupe.
3. Yet another example of Catholics and atheists showing that they are brothers and hardly similar to Calvinistic Christians. Deny it all you want, but look at jon running to their rescue and the back pats he got.
Your hate smells really bad contentious man.

exactly - and God is no respecter of persons.
Should there be veneration in any form?
To top it all off Mary the mother of Jesus in her last appearance in the Holy Scriptures makes this statement:
John 2:5
His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
So who are the servants to follow?
Mary?
John the Baptist?
Jesus?

Because Mary is the mother of Jesus and is presently the Queen of Heaven, "outranking" everybody there, but God.
(Her Assumption:)
Rev 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven: and the ark of his testament was seen in his temple. And there were lightnings and voices and an earthquake and great hail.
(Her Coronation as Queen:)
Rev 12:1 And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
(Her Position In Heaven:)
Rev 3:21 To him that shall overcome, I will give to sit with me in my throne: as I also have overcome and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Yeah, Jesus said stuff.
I'm sure most of it was relevant.
More than 50% of the world's population is not men.
He also said of Mary Magdalene that what she did to Him will remain unforgotten when she anointed His feet
