Apparently their was a huge vapor canopy over the earth that created a real greehouse effect as opposed to the scare tactic one they talk about today. That's why they find mastodons frozen in the arctic with semi-tropical food in their stomachs. When God opend up the heavens as well as the fountains of water that are now underground, there was a sudden and drastic climatic shift and the polar regions lost heat very rapidly freezing animals that would now only be found in places like India and Africa.

When the flood came in year 1656 it had never rained before, so no one paid attention to Noah.
Gen.2:5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. 2:6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

When Jesus comes a second time, it will be the same, the world will not hear, 2Tim.3:1-7; 2Pet.3-9; as it was done in the last days and in the time of the end. Rev.12:3,4,6-11.12; Micahel cast Satan down to have a short time in the time of the end, Dan.12:1-13;

At an early point in the history of the preparation of the earth, “God had not made it rain upon the earth,” but “a mist would go up from the earth and it watered the entire surface of the ground.” The time referred to is evidently early on the third creative “day,” before vegetation appeared. The first instance in the Biblical record when rain is specifically mentioned as falling is in the account of the Flood. Then “the floodgates of the heavens were opened,” and “the downpour upon the earth went on for forty days and forty nights.”

Jehovah directed Noah to build an ark and provided details regarding its construction. Then God added: “As for me, here I am bringing the deluge of waters upon the earth to bring to ruin all flesh in which the force of life is active from under the heavens. Everything that is in the earth will expire.”

Had there been rain prior to this? The Bible does not say. Genesis 2:5 says: “Jehovah God had not made it rain.” But this is how Moses, who lived centuries later, expressed matters in discussing not Noah’s day but a time long before that. As shown at Genesis 7:4, Jehovah referred to rain when speaking to Noah, and evidently Noah understood what he meant.

Yep! Prior to the Flood the earth used to be watered by a mist
like morning dew on the lawn. The world's climate was pretty
uniform like a single season. Read Genesis 2 for more info.

Seriously, according to the story the earth was watered by a mist which came up from the ground every night. I guess is was kind of like a heavy dew.

Supposedly (according to the YEC) there was a huge sub-terran ice block that melted and created the first real rains.

ADD: I think it is funny that a denomination or two of the fundies now see rainbows as bad because the Gaygenda has adopted them!

Most of genesis is regarded as parable but not clearly identified as such,as far as normal christians are concerned but orthodox jews and fundies take it quite literal - like they thought it was a government white paper report. Taken that way,it is just another example of what was called fabulism. Ancient jewish writers were very prone to it - try looking at the talmud sometime. it's worse - much worse.

Biblical "allegory" written as "mystery" to solve is not meant to be taken literally nor to be taken historically. But the allegoric morals thereof the mystery are meant to be taken seriously. Eg: Go learn what Hosea 6:6 repeated in Matthew 9:13 "meaneth", or not and kiss yer divided @ss bye bye.

The objective of the God Shew, a virtue all reality learning game, is to navigate the ultimate matrix of hide and seek, seek and find; and to make it unto the end alive unto God.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Seriously.
They believe that there was a cap of water in the air above that filtered the UV rays and kept the earth at twice the atmospheric pressure that we have now.. Plants grew bigger and faster than now.
