Is there a john boat or similar boat I can buy for cheap that will allow me to stand to fish for bass?

Is there a way to rig a john boat or whatever to build a standing platform?

Yes, most Jon boats have a small-med front deck.

You can extend your jon-boat deck with 3/4" pressure treated plywood and heavy-gage aluminum angle-brackets. However, I would only extend it 1-2 FT and NO MORE. Drastically changing the layout of a boat can make it dangerous! I would also ONLY buy a WIDE version Jon-boat and NOT those "skinny" Jon's. If you get a skinny Jon they're about as reliable to stand and fish from as a tippy canoe!

Speaking of canoes:

Gheenoe square-stern canoes are super-stable enough to stand and fish in. And if you get "outriggers" on a regular canoe you will be able to stand.

Go check out www. gheenoe.net

If I had the money for yet ANOTHER boat I would buy the 16 FT Gheenoe rigged with a 20 HP Honda. Talk about a "stealth machine"!

Needing a tax write off? Consider donating to www.charityboats.org. By you donating your used boat (running or not) it helps allow them help others in need. When you donate your boat to this charity you are donating to a non-profit organization, which means you are helping a family, a school, even a local charity that is in a bind and doesn’t have the means or the opportunities that many others may have. You will receive a tax deduction – All donors they we receive boat donations from will be able to file a tax deduction with the IRS. As a donor you receive a full market value federal deduction! This could reduce your tax obligations by thousands. They make sure that you receive maximum possible tax benefits for your boat donation.

had a client who's husband rigged a john boat for shrimping. it's a wrongful death and products liability case. her husband is dead now. seems he died after his modified john boat capsized and he drowned. why not just buy a bass boat. it's not woirth the risk. but if you want to risk it, build a raft. their sturdier than a rigged john boat. just hate to see you get hurt.
