The smallest dog breed in the world is the Chihuahua (pronuncation: chiwawa) that originated in Mexico and is named after Chihuahua, a city in Mexico. The real, real history like when it was bred, ec. I know that the Aztecs and the Incas have breed it. Hope it was a good answer. (These tribes even ate the poor Chihuahuas!)

Chihuahuas are officially the smallest breed. Although, according to a book I've got the smallest dog ever was a Yorkie in Englad. He was 2.5 inches tall and 3.75 inches long, weighing 4 ounces.
