The smallest dog breed in the world is the Chihuahua (pronuncation: chiwawa) that originated in Mexico and is named after Chihuahua, a city in Mexico. The real, real history like when it was bred, ec. I know that the Aztecs and the Incas have breed it. Hope it was a good answer. (These tribes even ate the poor Chihuahuas!)

Chihuahuas are officially the smallest breed. Although, according to a book I've got the smallest dog ever was a Yorkie in Englad. He was 2.5 inches tall and 3.75 inches long, weighing 4 ounces.

The smallest NATURAL dog breed is the Chihuahua (this does NOT count the ''teacup'' fad that's going around).

Smallest: Dog Breed Chihuahua.
The tiniest baby can be the height of your hand; they are so fragile, you press on them a little and the chihuahua are injured.
The tallest adult can be the height of your knee (depending how tall you are, though.)
--
Biggest: Mastiff
The tallest can be up to your chest and if stood up, TALLER THAN YOU! It's amazing how the mastiff works. Lots of food bills will be pouring in, not much grooming, you may need cropping for its ears, (or the opponent the mastiff will challenge for competition will have its eared ripped off) and vigorous exercise!
