Whats your opinion? Do you ever think Iraq, or any country that as the possibility of being in a war with us, would ever fire anywhere in the U.S. And start a war?

The most likely scenario for a war on U.S. soil is between the federal government and the people. As far as other countries are concerned I think attacks are possible (even nuclear) but a full blown war on our soil with a foreign power is unlikely. We have the definite power to make ANY country so concerned with it's own survival that they wouldn't have the means to carry out much of an incursion on our soil. Besides we have the militia. That is made up of every citizen big enough to aim a gun. We are the most heavily armed citizen population in history. If you're the guy trying to invade that has to be a sobering thought. You don't just have the military to contend with you've got literally everybody. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

Of coarse it is possible. During WW II, the Japanese actually dropped a bomb somewhere in California. They had, on their drawing board, a planned attack on San Francisco but it was scrubbed when the bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.

In today's world anything is possible, and I'm not real sure how prepared we are to defend against such an action. The one thing I do know, there is a gun for every man, woman , and child, floating around in the US. What impact this would have on a ground invasion remains to be seen. It should slow down an attack, just a bit I would imagine.

For this to happen, it would take a combined effort of other super powers. Countries like Russia, China, N.Korea, Iran, working in close concert to pull it off, would be the only way they could achieve any success. In the meantime, we would be bombing the piss out of their homelands, so what's to be gained?

Yes, it will most likely happen. Not anytime soon, but such things are inevitable.

All the dominating powers in history have weakened, been attacked and often fallen in time.

Egypt fell. Persia fell. Greece fell. The Roman Empire split into two, both empires fell. Napoleon's French Empire fell, the German Empire under the Nazis fell, and the Soviet Union dissolved after the better part of a century of existence.

What makes anyone think something similar won't happen to the US? Will they just end up being the top dog until the end of human history? I'm sure that's what all the other great empires thought.

Logistical it is impossible in the near to far future. No country on earth as a Navy strong enough to support a cross ocean invasion force. In fact the number 2, 3, and 4 Navies allied together does not have enough force. Add into that no other country has a large enough merchant fleet to support the supply chain need of that kind of attack. They would soon run out of ammo, food, fuel, and spare parts. Not only that, their are few militaries that are set up to operate for long periods outside their country in large numbers.

An invasion of the West coast would require 1 million plus men and they would have to clear the Rockies before winter to have a chance at victory. That is three million meals a day needed to be brought it. Modern armies can not hope to live off the land for their food.

An East coast invasion is worse. Most of the East coast is extremely urban. You would need at least 3 million men to be successful. No active army has that many men.

Add to it that America has 300,000,000 people and 250,000,000 privately owned firearms.

Yes, I think so. For one, their are so much hatred here in the U.S among different races of people. For two, there are too much envy/jealousy among U.S dwellers. For three, there are so many foreign/illegal people invading this country, it's getting out of hand. For four, the U.S citizen can not tell who belongs here or not. Last but not the lease, the different nationalities' belief in their own superiority.. Yes, I feel there will be another Civil War or Revolutionary War where the U.S. will be divided.

I actually lean towards Rufus' point... a war within. Perhaps with Mexico then taking advantage and seizing New Mexico, Arizona, and Southern California.

China, Russia, et al do NOT have the logistical equipment to support and continue an invasion.

Yes, someday. After all, ever is the rest of eternity. I doubt there is any possible way we can avoid a war on our land for hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands of years. Think of how much has happened in the last 300.

Good question...
The only nation that has ever really gotten foot soldiers on our soil is Britain, and perhaps Mexico, but not that far.

The U.S. would have probably used nuclear bombs, and another country might have used it before any fighting on U.S. soil occured. So basically its likely the whole world would be glassed before it happened.

So far, there are very few nations that could actually manage to get soldiers on U.S. soil,in a CONVENTIONAL war.Canada and Mexico probably,as they are geographically connected,Mexico wouldn't get far,Canada would wreck havoc however, they have radio active material, but no nuclear bombs, they could get thousands of soldiers into the U.S. they would be defeated ultimately, but the U.S. infastructure would be totalled. But those two nations are allies,if you mean enemies,or rivals these are a few who could actually get aconventional war into U.S. soil.

Russia, they are geographically close, they would get huge amounts of troops on U.S. soil, but most of the fighting will be aircraft, and eventually nuclear missiles.

China, their military is huge, and they may get a few hundred or a thousand on U.S. soil,I guess Hawaii primarly. They have massive transport planes and assault craft in their navy, but then again, they won't get far,and eventually it will turn into nuclear war. After a nuclear war,the U.S. will fall from superpower,China will fall from a rising nation, and war will become inconventional,so sabotaj and Chinese special forces will wreck havoc in the U.S.

Though India is an ally, they might be able to get a few of their special forces into the U.S., their methods won't be completely conventional, you won't see Indian tanks rolling down Hawaii, but lots of sabotage. Its impossible for India to be occupied if they were in a war with the U.S.with over a billion people, and a superb navy and some great fighter planes (and some really old crappy ones, there is a big gap in their planes),it would be quite impossible. So eventually it would become nuclear war,India may only get 2-5 nuclear bombs into the U.S. they have GSLV and PSLV space vehicles that could be used, but not actual nuclear missiles.
So a war with India would later after a nuclear strike, would become unconventional,so basically,Indians in India would quit their jobs, and the U.S. economy would stumble,as there are lots of Indian IT people, convienience stores, hotels and all that.

Pakistan:They would wreck havoc, but not nearly as much as China and India, there would be no fighting on U.S. soil, but most of the U.S. would be focused, and they may give nukes to terrorists,so it would be a lot less conventional then with India.

North Korea:U.S. air strikes would totally inhialate their forces. But maybe a few navy ships or a few planes could make it to Hawaii before getting shot down. And if they are extremely determined, they may get a nuke into Hawaii,or California or Washington.

But all the nations I named, they fought conventionally, there is one country out there, that would severely damage the U.S. inconventionally, and thats Iran.

A U.S. invasion would cripple their Armed Forces in months, not as fast as Iraq, and the U.S. would have far greater casualties, but eventually the Iranian Armed Forces would be crippled. The millions of Mullahs who are trained to fight if Iran is under occupation would invade Iraq and leave the Middle East in havoc (it already is in blood shed),and thouands of terrorists would probably make it to Europe, and as Iran has nuclear material, but not bombs, they can make a lot of dirty bombs in Europe and the Middle East, the U.S. woud probably be attacked on it's soil if they manage to somehow get themselves here from Europe. There would be huge problems with shipping and such. And gas prices would be in the 4 dollar area.Eventually it may become WW3.

Ha ha.I have no idea why I spent a lot of time on this question, but it was a good question, but anyway, unless it inconventional, like with Iran, most wars would eventually go nuclear,so a ground based conflict is not likely in the U.S.well unless there was insurgency or political downfall in the U.S.
