With Word you have to install some plugin and go through some bizarre process to export to pdf from what I've seen.
OpenOffice allows direct export to pdf files natively.
As far as a file printer definition, I know there are some apps out there for it, but I'm not that familiar with such.

I have Print Shop.
I open Print Shop
create a text box the full size of the page
click Edit, click Edit Text
type it
then File, Save As PDF
or, create a Word document
then open Print Shop and create the text box as above
copy the Word text, go to Print Shop and paste
Save as PDF
Or, you can convert your Word document to a PDF by using a free online converter at www.media-convert.com
I have used it. It's not difficult and does a pretty good job.

You can directly create word documents to a pdf format using the pdf printer software. It just acts like a printer we are able to see pdf printer as one of the printer. download pdf printer

I've used a few but the best program I've found (imho) is cute pdf. It is a smaller compact file that will do exactly what you want.

Microsoft has a free download that will allow you to save Office files as adobe acrobat pdf files.
