Alright, in a heated debate. Lets say we have two parents named Earl and Kathy. they have a daughter named Jeannie. Earl also has a son named Earl Jr. My question is that.....
Is Jeannie and Earl Jr. real brother and sister or half brother and half sister??

First off, forget the word "real", they are real brother and sister in either case.

But genealogically, if two people share the same mother and father, they are just called brother or sister.

If they only share ONE of those, either just a common mother or common father, they are called half-brother or half-sister because they share only half of each of their parents.

But both are real brothers and sisters.

I agree - throw out "Real".
Same two parents = Full brother/sister
Share one parent = half brother / sister
Share no parents = step brother / sister.

Jeannie and Earl Jr. are half brother / sister.

If Kathy had Jane by her first husband, Jane would be a step-child to Earl Sr., a step-sister to Earl Jr. and half-sister to Jeannie.

If Jeannie adn Earl Jr. have the same mother and father, they are full brother and sister, if they only share a father they are half brother and sister....

If Earl is from Earl Sr. previous marriage and Jeannie is from a new marriage then they would be half brother and sister.

To be "real brother and sister", they need to have the same parents; that is, both MUST have the same father AND the same mother.
IF both offspring have the same mother (or same father) but the other parent is different, then they are half-sister/brother.
In the case of "mixed" families, where each parent had children from a former marriage/union, then married, then there is NO relationship whatsoever between the children.
