Okay, so today, my mom got a ticket for 'passing a red light'. Okay, my mom didn't cross a red light she crossed a yellow light and was stuck of the middle of the road when it turned red, so she went and there was another darn guy next to us who passed it but the cops still gave her a ticket. So my mom asked if she can pay a ticket (instead of going to damn court) but they said "NO! YOU HAVE TO GO TO COURT!" Can my mom not go to court and pay the ticket or is the not allowed?

If it states on the citation that you have to appear, then you must show up. For future reference. The only time you can proceed on a yellow light is when it's flashing. It's a catch all.

First off, the police officer already singled your mother out as being in violation and decided to give her the citation instead of going after the other vehicle. That is just the luck of the draw. Apparently in your state, a red light violation is a mandatory court appearance. There is nothing that she can do but show up to court and either plead guilty or not guilty.

You should have a deadline to go to court... usually they give you about 45 days to appear in court... meanwhile they should send you a letter/citation by mail. In this letter they tell you if you can pay ur ticket by mail or you must appear in court. Usually for this kind of ticket you should be able to pay it by mail and not have to appear in court if it's the first time... and if it's happened 2 or more times or have some other issues or tickets then ur mom must see the judge. If she doesn't wanna appear in court cuz she is afraid or have some other "issues" with the law I suggest you hire an attorney and send him in ur mom's representation.

She needs to read the ticket and follow the instructions on the ticket. In most cases, the driver can simply mail in the fine and be done with it. However, in some situations, a court appearance is required. The answer should be on the ticket.

If after reading the ticket she is still unsure as to what action to take, she should call the courthouse and ask them.

just go to court and explain the situation . . . if she straight up did not do what she is being accused of . . . she shouldn't be charged with it . . . play ur cards right and the charges could be dropped all together. . . call for the cam from the cruiser and demand that the person next to you be charged as well if they keep the charges. . . . why should you be charged if someone in the same spot not. going to court can be a good thing. . . take it all the way to jury . . . the cops need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt to a jury that she ran a red light. . . and since she didn't they can't . . . and if they can't provide video footage . . . it's her word against his/hers, and that . . . doesn't prove beynd a reasonable doubt.

everything you need to know about this particular ticket can be found on the back of the ticket. They usually give you instuctions on how and where to pay, or how to plead not guilty and so forth on the back of the ticket.

she should be allowed to pay it and not have to go. that's the normal law....unless someone is suing her...which they're not.
