I have 1991 GMC sierra 1500, when I get up around 55-70mph on the highway it starts shaking, when I give it gas or let off it quits. I was told that the transmission or tire allignment could be causing this, any idea? By the way its an automatic with a 305ci.

This is usually a tire or a balance problem. That said, tires don't normally go out of balance unless a weight comes off the rim or something has happened to the tire. A bent rim can also cause something like this. Tire treads can become what is called separated which causes a vehicle to shake violently at certain speeds. These can all be checked with either a trained eye or by a shop. Tires can also have what is called cupping which could cause this, but this is not that common. You could have motor or trans. mounts broken or a driveshaft imbalance problem. Most of this would have to be checked to find it. Have a look and if you can't determine it, take it to a shop and go for a road test with a shop foreman as they would have the experience to tell you what it is by the feeling of it.

Most likely its a tire out of balance.Brake rotors would only cause it to bounce when you apply the brakes. My 87 Chevy pickup would bounce real bad around 45mph then at around 60 mph.The problem was i lost 2 wheel weights on one tire and 3 on the other front tire.

Does the body shake or does the steering wheel shake. Your driveshaft may be out of balance or your u-joints are stiff. If your steering wheel shakes then your front tire/wheel combination might be out of balance or you may have a broken belt in one of your tires. If the truck has a butt wiggle then your rear tire/wheels may be out of balance or you may have a broken belt in one of the rear tires

most likely your tires are not balanced or your alignment is off. If its not one of those your brake rotors may need to be resurfased, costing about 50$.
