I would like to have a speaker system installed throughout the main rooms in my house all connected to one soundsystem.

This would probably be around 5 speakers. Not taking into consideration the cost of speakers/music system roughly how much would it cost to have my house wired up?

also if i had wireless speakers with just power cables how much would it cost to have them mounted and power outlets put into the wall near the ceiling?

I appreciate this is very vague and maybe impossible to figure out but any help is appreciated.

You dont want to go wireless. These solutions are expensive and dont work all that well.

And FireDog is a service that can install in-wall speakers and has nothing to do with 'fire'.

You should call around as different places have different prices & rules. At one time, I was hearing that in-wall or in-ceiling speakers ran about $150 per speaker to install, not including the speaker.

So that is about $750/room.

There are also some rule about NOT being able to run wires in exterior walls because of the cross-braces. This means you need to have your equipment on a inside wall.

Some places to call for prices and quotes are:

circuit city w/Firedog
Best Buy/Magnolia

And look in your Yellow pages. There are lots of local companies that install 'structured' wiring that includes Network, Alarm systems, Sat systems, and whole-house audio.

The ballpark answer would be anywhere from $700-2500, but there's so many other factors that come to mind. Assume that it will take 2 electricians an entire day to do a "simple" 5 speaker in-wall system.

If you're talking about in-wall (or in-ceiling) speakers, you'll want to allow up to 2-4 hours per speaker to install. This includes prepping the surface, cutting the hole, running the wires, installing the speaker, and testing the equipment.

For mounted speakers, you can probably do those things yourself. Many home theater and consumer electronics stores provide a wide range of universal mounts that are no more difficult to put in place than hanging a picture or shelf. The key concern there is to use the appropriate bolt for your wall so that they're secured for the next several years.

Good luck!

don't call firedog. don't have electricians decide where to put your speakers. the word fire means to burn. when dealing with electronics, that just doesn't sound good. Electricians are great for high current. So when you have a professianal and reputable home theatre guy install your system, he will tell you where to have your eletrician put the plug at if one is needed.
