He needs to see an endodontist ASAP. That is their specialty. I saw 12 dentists in a month with a toothache because the endodontist waiting list was 45 days. Finally I saw 4 dentist in one day. The last one got me into the endodontist in 1 hour where he found a small canal in the tooth with a nerve in it that everyone else had missed. Of course I was on antibiotics the whole time. BTW, Amoxicillin is not a good choice unless it is combined with potassium clauvanate. That is sold as Augmentin and kills the germs that are resistant to Amoxicillin. I'm not a doctor or pharmacist.

I am sorry that you are suffering this problem that quite a few people have been through. I would suggest speaking with your dentist. It will take time for the antibiotic to work well enough for you to have relief from it. If the pain is bad as you say so and I know from experience that it can be down right horrible. When you speak with your dentist and do not wait until it worsens. He will be able to give pain medication. If you have taken the full course of antibiotics and you still have infection, you may require a stronger or different kind of antibiotic. My dentist told me that if infection is present it is difficult to properly numb the area until the infection is gone. I did have my infected teeth extracted, but the oral surgeon did it while I was given medication that had me sleep through the experience. I suggest that you call your dentist about the pain.

The only way he is going to get any reliefe is by getting on an antibiotic.Get him to the ER anything as a tooth abceess is nothing to be trying home remedies on as iit can go to your brain and kill you if it is an upper or even the infection could make you deathly ill and be life threatening also.Do you have any friends or even relatives that might have any antibiotics left over from a previous illness. We all tell our doctors that we will take them till gone as instructed, but I know very few people who actually do. Even a couple amoxicillin any thing to start with till he can get to a doc.Yes your MD will treat the infection you don't need a dentist for an infection.Good Luck

I have heard that placing a moist tea bag in the mouth between the cheek and the tooth is supposed to help draw out the abcess.

I've drained stuff out with baking soda before, like stingers.mouth care usually involves a slice of lemon for me or oral hydrogen peroxide or baking soda, rub the lemon on the effected area.my mom used to actually carefully cut hers open with a razor blade. i successfully used a capri sun straw to drain spider venom out of my cat's face once and then squeeze a remainder of it out then the peroxide, and neosporin but extra salt water would be used in this case.

Just a hot compress will help. Rubbing garlic on it is also meant to help. Take some ibuprofen to ease the pain, it will help as it is an anti-inflammatory.
