Olive oil has a distinctive flavor that might not be what you want in a cake!

Olive oil has a lower flashpoint and heavier viscosity than vegetable oil. It will affect they way the cake batter rises and bakes, not to an extreme but there wil be a slight difference in the texture and flavor. While I recommend olive oil of rmost cooking because it is lower in saturated and trans fat, I would not use it for baking.

Olive oil is flavored so it will make it taste a little different. If you have applesauce use that instead of the vegetable oil and it's fantastic. I use it in place of vegetable oil every time I bake....it makes everything so much more moist....and doesn't at all give anything an apple flavor.

It most likely won't affect your cake in the grand scheme of things, plus olive oil is much healthier for you. I use olive oil most of the time anyway, it's much less fattening.
If you don't want to take the chance, you can stick to vegetable oil, but olive oil will work fine.

No u can't use olive oil. Yes it will taste bad. Taste olive oil by itself and see the flavor in it compared to regular oils. Try to use a oil substitute if you want something different.

If you want a lighter oil, use canola oil... This won't have the strong taste/smell that olive oil does. You should only use olive oil with making foods, not baking, unless the recipe calls specifically for it.

Yes you can and it will probably taste the same. I prefer to cook with olive oil or sunflower oil, and I have never had a problem with anything I have made.

oil can alternate in any food without tasting bad...ill tell you why....do you evver see on a recipe use specifically vegetable oil...unless it does say so i guess you need to put vegetable oil...olive oil is actually a bit more healthier for you than vegetable oil...so no it doesnt matter what type of oil you use... especially in cake batter
