I am an organ donor. The procedure for registering for organ donation depends on your state. This site http://www.organdonor.gov/donor/index.htm will help those of you who are considering organ donation.
The Frequently Asked Questions link at the bottom of the page of the site above is especially helpful. It is important to realize that in some instances, your family as well as yourself must agree to the organ donation. So it's important that your family know what your wishes are.
What is another way you can make sure your family follows your wishes? You need an Advance Directive. Remember the recent Terri Schiavo case? If your family knows in advance exactly what you want, and if your Advance Directive is filed with your physician, your wishes will be honored.
For Advance Directive information by state, see http://www.uslivingwillregistry.com/forms.shtm.
Organ donation is an unselfish and generous act that saves lives. It's important that your family know of your wishes. We never know how much time we have left.

Your not gonna need them anymore after you die, so why not give them to someone that can put them to good use. There are too many people that die every year simply because people don't want there loved ones cut into pieces. I definitely think you should be a donor. If you were lying in a hospital bed waiting for a heart you might not wish harm on someone but if it finds them you'd hope for them to be a donor.

Unless you are religious and your religion forbids it, then why not? I mean, when you're dead, what do you need with your organs? That is the ultimate gift you can give someone...the gift of life. It's also kind of a "Do unto others..." thing. Wouldn't you want someone to donate an organ so that you might live a better life or just live if you were in need?

It is wise as long as your not next door to an influential poltician's son or celeb's daughter who needs some parts! Docs may speed up your "DOA" assessment to get the goods

I think it is a good idea. Even after you have died, you have the opportunity to continue helping people and perhaps even save another life.

I don't see why not. If you're dead, you're not really using them anymore are you? If they can help someone live a little longer, I'm all for it. I'm not using them anymore. They can have whatever they can use.
