I know that we used to warm up every day by sight singing out of a hymnal. We use to sing songs like hte cannon of praise and such, plus you have christmas and easter concerts. It kinda goes with the whole pledge of allegiance thing, and one nation under god, I don't know how to feel about this, what do you guys think?

I guess it could be argued that religious music is a part of our American culture, therefore it is fine for choirs in the American schools to learn and practice such songs.

Think about it. If you take away every mention of religion, then you couldn't even tell kids in history class that black people composed the music known as "***** spirituals" or that John Brown the abolitionist believed he was a prophet and the avenger for God.

God will never be entirely banished from the schools. He is part of our national heritage.

I think that's yet another front that needs to be addressed.. IN my childrens school district there are no longer christmas and easter concerts there are winder and spring recitals.. hymns are not used in choir and the pledge is not recited at the beginning of school..

Slowly religion is being removed from the places in which it never belonged..

Well, I can't really teach my subject (Visual Art), without discussing various religions.

I think that if it's only christian songs, that is just silly, as there are thousands of wonderful songs from other faiths and would be a better education to provide instruction on those as well.
