Out of the 2 options (removing it or getting it reattached), the reattachment is the best option. Removal could open the door to a dry eye condition, in which the dog would need to be on drops for the rest of its life.

My Lhasa/shih tzu cross had this condition when she was rescued after a puppy mill was shut down. The surgery was performed on both eyes. It involved putting the lower portion of her eyelids back in place and stitching it there. This is the preferred method. She needed drops afterwards for a few days and a mild sedative as she was not accustomed to being able to see and was insecure in her new surroundings.
One stitch popped, which can happen in cases as severe as hers and our vet performed the surgery again free of charge. Now after 2 years, she is free of eye troubles and happy.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU8dF

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Treatment of cherry eye is very straightforward and consists of surgically repositioning the gland. Topical or injectable treatments of antibiotics and steroids are rarely effective in reducing the gland and allowing for correction without surgery. Because the exposed gland is at greater risk for further trauma or infection, prompt surgical replacement is the best choice.

they fix the cherry eye problem with surgery and give you drops for the dogs eyes, its pretty minor and they recover fast most of the time. this just happened to one of my fiancee's great dane puppies.

The ONLY treatment is surgery. The tear duct is not the problem. It is the THIRD eyelid.
See the vet, have the surgery, everything fine.
