My boyfriend was arrested for fighting on 10/16/07 and has been there to this day. I checked out the website for Broward County jail and it doesn't say anything about a release date. Ive been depressed ever since and my baby doesn't know when he is getting out. I would just like to know if anyone has any idea of how long an average person can be in jail if they're being charged for assault/battery? I really need to find out...? please? anything helps...thanx.

He has certainly already had a formal court appearance and been informed of the charges against him. They set a bail amount at that time, and he will remain in jail until he either posts that amount in bail, or until his trial.

You need to find out how much his bail is.

My guess is that he is still in jail because he was not eligible for bail or could not afford to pay the bail. If either of these are true, he will be in jail until his court date or he can afford to pay the bail.

Not sure of the possible penalties in Florida for assault but, generally, the sentence depends on the egregiousness of the offense and the person's criminal background.

A first time offender who gets into a fight with another guy at a bar will probably get probation. A guy who is on probation and smacks a little old lady upside the head with a pipe is going to go to jail for a long time for the assault plus get time for violating his probation.

If your boyfriend does not already have a lawyer, he needs one.

Has he been convicted? Does he have bail? Can he make it? He may be waiting for trial and either has no bail or can not make it. You are arragned right away, so he must have bail. He probably can't get the money up. I highly doubt he went to trial in 2 weeks, so that is what he is waiting on. That could be quite a long time. Then he will be sentenced. The good news is that all this time counts towards whatever sentence he may get.

One of two things happened, he was lost in the system or he has charges that preclude him from release until his trial. He can be in jail as long as it takes for his trial to finish. He needs a lawyer, hopefully he has one by now. His lawyer can give you the details if the guy gives him permission. If he doesn't give permission, get rid of this guy, QUICK!!! Either he is honest and up front, about his situation or you move on!!!!

it all depends on many facets of his case, did anyone suffer long lasting effects of the assault, is this a recurring thing of him fighting, did he hit any officers, did he use a weapon, does he know self defence? did he kill someone prior, this time? was it a female, was it a domestic assault....your question is simply to vague to answer with a solid response, sorry.
