I can't say I've heard of a "filter/cap" for white balance setting. I have an Expodisc and love the bejeezus out of it. I've done everything from setting custom white balances on a white card, a gray card, my sock... and the Expodisc has given the most consistant and accurate rendition of color. From what I can tell, unless you're in a studio setting with modeling lights and whatnot, the setting your WB with an Expodisc won't be far off from Auto, or the corresponding preset for whatever condition that you're in. For my purposes, it was worth it.

Read the review of the ExpoDisc in the May 2007 issue of Shutterbug Magazine (available on-line at shutterbug.com). It really does the job when used in mixed lighting situations.

You could always try the WB Filter. One by ClearWhite was reviewed in the Oct. 2007 issue of Shutterbug.

If your camera allows you to set custom white balance based on the lens view, use a plain white piece of paper (not glossy).

Make sure it is white, not off colour - not every piece of white paper is really white - and use that to set your custom white balance.
