absolutely true. i haven't seen a trainer recommend one-armed pushups ever. it's an old-school thing that you don't see anymore. mainly because of the strain on the chest and shoulder ligaments.

Boxers do a ton of stuff. Some trainers recommend it, some don't. It all depends on how strong you are. If you can't do many of them, it's not the right workout for you. Anything you do can cause shoulder injuries. I actually feel that 1-armed push-ups mimic a common punching position during real boxing matches.

Yes its true(injury), and it cuts into the fast twitch muscles that boxers train for. For instance, when doing a standard push up on the last part of the push up, push up as fast as you can. My trainers made me do standard push ups first, then 1 arms when i got up 100(so i could do fast twitch push up on 1 arm without injury).

My coach made all his athletes do them before we could compete at the senior level. All calesthenics have injury risk if they aren't done properly, or if they are too hard for the athlete, but if you are strong enough to do them without straining yourself, and if your form is good, they are no more risky than other exercises. I personally think there are more efficient ways to build strength, but it was a mental shot in the arm for athletes about to compete at the hightest levels. Coaches vary a lot in their training styles, so there are probably some who do and some who don't (as the other answers bear out)

They are pretty useless. Impressive for those that cant do them but dont serve any real purpose. We have equipment now that does a much better job without stressing the body so much.

That's okay because I could never do one anyway.
I did see some guys do them and other weird exercises, but I was limited to what I could do.
