Fires that burn renewable fuel like wood or paper do not increase global warming, because all the carbon in the wood and paper came out of the air very recently. It is the same reason that people and animals breathing out CO2 have no net effect on global warming. Only burning coal and oil has an effect on global warming. That is taking carbon that has been underground for millions of years and putting it in the air as CO2. That is what causes global warming, not wood fires.

Of course smoke is nasty stuff. It is the "traditional" air pollution that has been so effectively reduced in the last 50 years. How soon people forget the hard work and successful results only to worry about some new problem and say nobody ever fixes anything!

no because not only are they great @ parties but also bcuz global warming is a scam in the context many r using it for. back in the seventies people were saying that we were going 2 have another ice age. the earth has natural cycles that it goes thru. although they won't say this stuff on most t.v. news stations some of the very people who are advocating global warming are flying in private jets which give off a lot more pollutants than a bonfire. the truth is out there but sometimes it can be difficult to find. i wish that some people wouldnt b so quick to believe evrything the news tells them and actually take the time to do some in depth research.

It is also a good time to point out that it was the one time of year when such resources were burnt in order to clean up for disease prevention reasons before the winter. That's when the festival was in the pagan calendar.

Mate of mine burned a whole mess of garden waste from a cut down hedge on Nov 5th last year. Nobody could really complain. Not bad for one night a year.

For heavens sake, were you never ten? Where has the fun gone with blinking health and safety and rotten global warming - which, incidentally, is just the latest fad, bit like the Aitkins diet et al..... you'll be telling me I can't go on the swings, next......

if it makes you feel any better, the same amount of co2 is released whether the rubish is burnt or decomposes, its just released alot quicker if it is burnt
