Ive had a misdemeanor for 10 years on my record now i called cause i thought they only lasted 10 but the lady said they can last from 10 to 20 years i was like thats such bs its been keeping me from getting good jobs for the last 10 years now i gotta wait another 10 possibly? i havent been in trouble with the law since, not even a ticket so i think i should get a break, but i guess that california for you

Misdemeanors NEVER go off your record. However, if you get the relief available under PC 1203.4 you should be able to tell non-governmental employers that you were not convicted. See this site for more information:

(Note, I recently got the Judicial Council to correct some errors found there, and am trying to get them to explicitly say what California case law says: you can say you were not convicted.)

Sorry...but misdo's like a felony will remain on your permanent record forever. Don't know where you got your info but they are dead wrong. The whole object of a record is to keep those folks that are entitled to know aware of what your propensity for criminal activity has been in the past.

Your record will be around until you are long gone.
