Californians Give God Thanks for Blessings Great and Small after Devastating Fires
"Dear Lord, thank You for sparing us again and thank You for helping all the people who needed the help."
Teresa Neumann (October 30, 2007)
(San Diego, Ca.)—The Associated Press has reported that in one California area, hit hard by the recent fires, people are giving thanks to God for all things great and small. A sign outside of the Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church reads: "Life is Fragile; Handle with Prayer." (AP Photo/Rick Bowmer)
"Praise the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; we have lucked out much more than we deserve," said Bill Lange, a scientist who led the service. "Dear Lord, thank You for sparing us again, and thank You for helping all the people who needed the help."

I am not anti-black in the least and I resent that remark. Accusing people of being prejudiced everytime the truth is told is actually a cop out. I asked a simple question.

The bible says to expose sin. I think it's sinful the way many of the Katrina Victims acted. The day we can no longer call sin sin......is the day satan has won and Judgement will come.

I saw the difference and the greatest contrast of all, on the surface, is the socio/economic class of people being affected by the disaster. I believe the people of California were better prepared to deal with a crises. Some will say that because they were wealthier, they got better response from the relief centers. I think the education level and emotional maturity of the population helped them to cope with the situation, to respond in a calm and responsible manner. They probably had greater resources to draw upon to begin with, which could be attributed to their higher economic status. Regardless of the reason, your observation is correct that the orderly response is quite different than the chaotic one in New Orleans.

These people were rich and they knew that thier insurance would pay them. Nobody knows if they looted or not when it comes to the media they report only what they want to.By the way what are you trying to say? That just goes to show you that there is indiffrence in this world. I am pretty sure the people who survived Catrina thanked God also, but they were totally wiped out, do you think they should have thanked God, by putting it on a blimp so people will know that they did. We should all be concerned that something more is going on the world is being dystroyed right up under our noses and we should concentrate on the Earth more than material things.

Well Katrina-Victims had days to get out.,Knowing they were all in a Bowl would have given them reason to heed the warnings Most of them were stubborn. They could have used all those school buses...What happened???
I get it - poor and rich lost something there is no difference in my eyes(God created both) it depends on how they will overcome. Will they stay victims or get their lives back together?
I don't have to have millions of dollars to be happy or satisfied with Life. ( does money bring complete- unending happiness ?)and most of the people here seem pretty satisfied in thier lives. I don't know if they have a lot of money or just as broke as me.(my needs are met) So,We all have issues in life -some have it great -some don't -some work hard for what they got -some don't the only one that can change someones attitude and lifes punches are themselves. And Those that need help with money, a hug or whatever that is what other people are for and in a Christian's Life God is the Lifter of our Heads.....some choose other religion to do this too.

Everything broke all at once in New Orleans. The phones went down, the power with it. The police back-up radios could not be recharged. The roads were out. The trucks to repair them were destroyed. The shops to repair the trucks were destroyed. There was no way for the workers of those shops to get to work anyway, the roads were out and there was no police protection because the radios were out. It was a complete collapse of an entire region. Ever service stopped; fire, police, sewage, water, power, health, and transportation. There is no realistic comparison to what happened in CA.
I am certain that they were praying in New Orleans as well, just for help, not thanks.
All that said, New Orleans did not acquit itself well. Its leadership failed and its people turned on one another. It was a dark time in our history, and the city, State, and nation responded poorly.

These were not poor people..these for the most part, were extremely rich compared to those in New Orleans....they did act in a way that I wouldn't have, but I am not judging them....what would it feel like to have the candy store opened up in front of you if you were that poor? Did you notice the movies and the food and the basketball court,,these CA refugees had BTW....maybe things would have gone better in New Orleans,,,if they could have just got water or food....they had a right to be upset....
I live in MS, in exactly the spot were the Hurricane actually hit..I lost my home....and I didn't see much looting, because our Governor,,,called for troops...Democratic Mayor of New Orleans and the Democratic Governor of LA,,,dropped the ball.....and tried to blame President Bush for their shortcomings.....and then the people of New Orleans,,, turn around and vote Mayor Ray Nagin right back in...go figure..

Its really not a good comparison.
While people did lose property in the wildfires in California, it still palls in comparison to the devastation of Katrina.
For one thing, the scale of the catastrophe in California is much smaller. Katrina affected the entire gulf coast and literally destroyed whole metropolitan areas. The wildfires only affected neighborhoods and usually outlying ones.
And most importantly, in Southern California services and police protection was not really affected. You cant have much looting when there is a raging fire going on and afterwards the areas were covered with firemen and support personell.
As for Gods role in either, I refuse to see Gods deliberate hand in the suffering of people. Just my opinion.

Yes, FEMA has learned the important lessons from Katrina. First, get control of the media so the embarrassing stories don't see the light of day. Another advantage is that people weren't trapped in their attics because there was no escape route. And folks who live on hills in California usually have financial options.
And funny thing: when we see a white person carrying a TV, we know it's his. When it's a black man, he's stealing it. How do we always know that?

So, was there a reason that the prayers for rain were answered only after hundreds of people were burned out of house and home?
