My son is 9 years old and has been on Adderal XR for the last 2 years. His father is not changing insurance and brand name medications will not be covered. Does anybody know of any extended release medications that are in generic form? I know that Adderal comes in a generic but it is not extended release, which my son needs. He takes two medications and they will cost about $500.00 a month. I don't qualify for any government assistance and even went to the manufactor and couldn't get any help there either. Any suggestions???

If you or your child are on a medication that can not be substituted for another, then the ins. co will pay for it. all you have to do is have the Dr. fill out a form (provided be the ins co. all you have to do is call and ask) and return it to the ins co. it takes some time to get it going but in some cases it's well worth the wait. starting a new med can take forever to get the dosage at an acceptable level for some people and they have to go thru so much before they get there.

My 10 year old was on Concerta for 6 years and I got fed up and took her off and now use herbal supplements. Check into a natural doctor or take the chance of that drug being recalled for serious side effects....
