“For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.”
-1 Corinthians 1:26-29

Would you rather be considered foolish, weak, and nothing by the world…yet chosen by God?
Or would you rather be considered wise, powerful, and noble by the world…yet shamed by God?

"I'd rather have Jesus..."

It's hard sometimes, isn't it. We (Christians) want to prove that we know things of this world. That we are equally good in science, school, music, sports, everything. But, we don't have to be smarter than unbelievers. We don't have to always prove that we are right (when we say something that God said!)

I'd rather be a fool for Jesus, then wise in the eyes of the world! Rather be shamed by the world than shamed by God!!!

Good question!

It indicates that celebrity is not equal to holiness, that those who follow behind the superstars "according to worldly standards" are misguided. Reaching out to the poor and powerless (instead of the movers and shakers), risking one's fortune, reputation and security, is foolish and stupid "according to worldly standards". But it is effective in redressing the evils of social, political and economic injustice. The more people who do it, the more just and peaceful the world becomes. That is the foolishness and weakness that shames the wise and powerful. Paul is saying that wisdom and strength are mutable notions, dependent on what a culture's true values are.

No that verse is not calling most Christians foolish and weak.
It's just saying none of us were ever perfect...and none of us have ever had the right to "boast" about anything we could have done to be saved by God because his Grace is what has saved us. If we ignored that fact..we'd all be walking around "puffed up" with Pride and not even able to be conformed to His will for our lives because of it. That would be actually be esteeming ourselves higher than what we ought to do as the bible tells us not to do. (Phil.2:3)
And when that scripture is speaking of the lowly things in the world...it's not referring to people. That's why it says "things"
The foolish things of the world confound the wise because God does it so that it humbles them.
Recognize his power is awesome.
Take for instance "Faith."
Simple believing in something you can't literally see at all....
yet it yields results.

That's something that's very simple...yet it has confounded the wise. Meaning, the intelligent people of the world. Who are so extremely smart...yet they have no knowledge of God...meaning...real knowledge.

You can take the miracles Jesus performed. Something as simple as telling the raging storm to be peaceful, and it was calm.
Or turning water into wine. Or healing a deaf man's eyes by spitting on dirt and wiping it over his eyes.....
Or...forming man himself out of the dust of the ground...yet he only becomes a living thing when God literally breathes his spirit into him.
Why? how?
Those simple things truly would confound, confuse, the wise of this world.
Yet, if you understand the concept of faith, there is no confusion with you.

So those humble things he has chosen to use for his own Glory. And amen to that. Because God's power is awesome..it's magnificent. And people can't fathom it.
But should just stand in awe of it.
But the statement that most Christians are foolish and weak- is not something God would ever say to his people.
And he would never admonish anyone by downgrading them.
It's not right to say that about anyone really.
He'd never say that to get us to see ourselves...the Lord doesn't have to resort to that tactic to do so.
Everything he does is in love. Even a rebuke. Even when he's getting us to see ourselves.

Here he is simply stating, that no one has the right to boast, not because we are foolish and weak. But because, it's his love that has saved us. There's nothing that we could have done to save ourselves. And causing us to recognize his infinite love for us.

Amen.

no its saying that people who arrogant and pride full are the ones who are foolish and unwise and sometimes the people that we think are foolish or weak because they do the right thing and admit there faults or think they give in too easily are the ones that are trying to be the most like Jesus and not full of arrogance and pride

ANY scripture indicates that, if the Christian is foolish and weak enough to believe it.

And your options present a false dichotomy, since there is no god.
