I was doing some research..Looking for reasons why we abandoned plural marrage. I kind of wanted to get it going again you know? We'll doctrine it seems was changed in order to obtain statehood. Did God want us to be a state so bad that he would just change our doctrine?

You're talking about breaking the law. Reported.

Believe me, I'm far from a Nazi. Take it up with yahoo, i wouldn't have bothered if you hadn't blatantly violated the community guidelines with your rant. Seek knowledge or leave.

How very Frank of you.

The point is that if we had continued the practice, the federal government would have taken over all church properties, including our temples. The Lord could not allow the temples to fall into unhallowed hands and for his temples to be defiled. The Church leaders would have been imprisoned, the members would have been disenfranchised as citizens and the Church would have ceased to exist for all practical purposes. For this purpose, the Lord told Wilford Woodruff to issue the manifesto. The Lord held the government accountable for their forcing us to abandon the practice. Aside from that, it is my belief that the practice had fulfilled its purpose. A new generation had been raised under the law of celestial marriage and raised with the attitude of obeying the prophets. Thus, the Lord did raise up a people or generation unto himself as spoken by Jacob in the Book of Mormon. The principle was no longer necessary and so the people were able to return to the basic law of one husband and one wife.
Statehood itself had little to do with the cessation of plural marriage.

We all know you hate Mormons. Please don't further insult us by saying "we" and including yourself in the group that you're persecuting.

Polygamy was something that was practiced for a time, and not something that was a "thou shalt" for all members. I have some ideas, but I don't fully understand the reasons for polygamy. I presume that God had his reasons for asking us to live it and that he had his reasons for terminating the practice.

Like many things in our lives, God gives us information when we need it and when we seek the answers. The prophet was getting heat on the polygamy issue from the government and that's when he took it to the Lord. Is this really that hard to understand?

Ask God if Joseph Smith was one of his prophets. Do that humbly, sincerely, full of faith, and ready to accept any answer that the Lord gives you. Do that, and you'll come to better understand this practice.

By the way, do you believe that the Bible isn't true because there was some polygamy practiced there???

YOU wanted to get it going again??? Seriously.

The doctrine has not changed, the practice has. There will still be plural marriage in the Celestial Kingdom = no change in doctrine. The practice was just "put on hold" and only God knows why...

Polygamy was banned 6 years before Utah was made a state.

Polygamy was started because anti-Mormons like you were killing the men, God told Joseph to keep the religion populated so they were allowed to take multiple wives. It wasn't until Wilford Woodruff prayed about the subject 50 years later(give or take a few years) that God told him to end polygamy because the religion and it's members were not near eradication.

What do you mean 'we'.

There were three scriptural principles in conflict in 1890. Obey the law, follow the prophet and practice plural marriage. The Prophet based on prayer and revelation, announced what the church would do. He resolved these conflicting problems.

It was changed to get state hood and to be kept out of jail. Just like their considering all blacks as the decendants of Cain until 1968: they suddenly decided it was wrong, really they were threatend with jail.
