Well, in my mind there's two kinds of fox hunt. English Fox Hunting and just hunting foxes out in the wild like any other game animal.

I don't have much of an opinion on the English fox hunts, except that I'm sad that the tradition has ended. I think that urban dwellers are too quick to force their artificial views of the world on others. Oh, and the outfits the women wear. There is just something about a nice female figure in those tights and boots. Wow!

Fox hunting like it's done in the US provides a much needed service. Just like coyote, fox populations have exploded because their competition, the big predators like bear, wolf and big cats are gone or limited. Fox have taken over and now have become too populated.

They wreck havoc on small farm animals and household pets. There is a neighbor of mine, an elderly lady, that is grieving the killing of her two beloved Yorkies. Foxes just tore their little bodies to pieces for the fun of it. Foxes kill for fun you know. Forget what you may have learned otherwise, fox will kill all 50 chickens in a coop for the fun of it and only drag off one for dinner.

It is unfortunate that you have developed this negative idea of hunting. Should a tiger hunt? Should a deer be hunted? Of course they should. These are the ways of life. It is far more humane to shoot an animal than herd it into a shoot and mechanically separate it. Ideologically, it makes no sense to be against hunting unless you are a vegetarian, it only takes the dirty work off of your hands. In addition to that, most of the North American predators have become sparse and something needs to be done to keep wild prey animals from becoming so populous that they starve to death after eating all of their preferred food.

I would encourage you to speak with some people off of the Internet because people are more polite when there is a real face in front of them and you can immediately clarify meanings. Best of luck.

I don't know how fox hunting is done in your area, but where I'm at, it's done like any other predator hunt. You sit somewhere, use a call, and if one comes in, you shoot it. People also trap them, and I have nothing against that, either. Either way, the fox has the advantage, so I see nothing against it. My opinion on any hunting is that it's needed, and good for the environment. You can go on and on, until you are blue in the face, but you won't convince me not to hunt. If hunting is ever outlawed, I will be an outlaw.

I have no personal opinion on formal fox hunting since I have never done it. However, I have hunted foxes with a .22 Hornet and had a lot of fun doing it. I have personally accounted for the deaths of many foxes in my lifetime and had a lot of pleasure from it.

As for hunting in general, I think it is a fine outdoor experience and hope to continue doing it for many years to come. My favorite hunting is for squirrels but I also enjoy deer hunting quite a bit. I don't care as much for water foul hunting since it involves a lot of sitting in a wet environment and freezing my butt off. It just isn't my idea of fun but more power to those who do enjoy it.

I might point out that a portion of the price of every box of shells that I buy, every hunting and fishing license that I buy. I belong to Ducks Unlimited and money that I contribute though their programs goes to management of wildlife. Also a portion of every gun that I buy goes to management of wildlife. I spend quite a few dollars for these products every year so I have contributed a significant asmount of money to the management of wildlife. Because of your opposition to hunting, do you mind if I ask how much money you have personally contributed toward the management of wildlife.

I think vegetarian is an old indian word for bad hunter. I think people like you are hypcrites. I think everyone is entitled to be stupid, but you are abusing your priveledge. I think hunting is a way of life, and a great way of animal population control. As you can tell by now, I could really care less what your opinion of hunting or hunters is. It seems the majority here feel the same way, we simply don't care what a tree hugging hypocritical liberal anti freedom child thinks about anything!

I am an avid deer hunter, but I also bring the meat home and eat it all year. I am all for the shooting sports, as long as it is not wasteful, i.e. the meat is used. Personally, I am against the use of dogs for deer hunting, since it is 'cheating' in my opinion.
My wife doesn't like the hunting concept, but she has no problem with a freezer full of cheap meat!

Ask yourself this question... Would you rather have a wolf or fox die, that do no good for society, or risk the life of a livestock animal. The live stock serves a purpose for us in society, not the wolf. Think about it the next time we talk about possibly saving a couple lives by hunting a wolf.

"I'm like totally against people who hire assasines to kill for them. It's like you know, Lame."
Some people go to the store and buy their meat already butchered because they don't have the time or enough sense to kill and butcher for themselves. Other people raise their own food and process it themselves like people have done for centuries. Other people hunt for pleasure and relaxation. other these type most use the meat that they kill.
One point that was made, but not strongly enough, is that hunting controls the population of wildlife. Both for the protection of the species and for the protection of the human population as well. Example, people being killed after hitting a large animal with a car.
Wildlife is like any crop, it must be managed or lost. If you plant corn, you must collect the corn. If you let is go back to seed every year, eventually you will not have any edible corn crop. The Geniuses in the 1930's almost wiped out the deer in areas of western U.S. by refusing to allow the thinning of herds. Poor management....
Another point I would like to made is that 17% of MOST hunting fees and ammunition sales, hunting equipment sales go to the Fed. Govt. for the use of wildlife management. NO OTHER group of people provide anywhere near that amount of money for the protection, conservation and preservation of wildlife. PETA, Humane Society of United States and other groups collect money for the purpose of paying their boards of directors. Not for the preservation of wildlife, or pets.

I support it, if it's managed properly.

In the 2006 hunting season, 506,947 white-tail deer were registered during the bow and gun seasons in Wisconsin.
http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/wildlife/hunt/deer/harvest06.htm

"The Wisconsin DNR estimates up to 1.8 million whitetail deer roam the fields and woods, 100,000 more than a year ago." "About 45,000 deer are killed annually in car-deer crashes."
http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-chat/1915340/posts

So, even though hunters took over a half million deer and about 45,000 were killed in car accidents, there are still 100,000 more deer now than last year. Imagine the overpopulation problems if the herd wasn't managed - too many deer, not enough food/land to support them, the spread of disease, more deer/car accidents, etc.
