If he has powers that only a god could possess, then it follows that he is a god. But if there is only one god, how could that be?

There is nothing biblical that promotes the "devil" as powerful in the sense you state.

The devil/666/the beast was a symbolism to show mankinds self serving nature. In short, "Devil" is a new word as hell is also such a "new word". Remember, the works of the bible were all symbolic as this is the language of spirit. There is litle in "literal" sense within the works of the bible.

The Bible , in many religions, has been so distorted by fictional interpretations that much can be lost, if not all lessons lost in Spirituality do to literal translations.

You MAY notice in many responses the shifting from "literal" to symbolism" in explanations and interpretations; this is religious ones supporting thier claims; by switcvhing gears they come up with exactly what they wish to convey; "Their truth"

That's where demons come in. Because of the fact that he does NOT have powers that God himself has he can't be everywhere at once. So his kingdom, is composed of his armies of demons and imps. Powers and principalities that are in different ranks.(Ephesians 6:12)
Some torment souls in hell....and millions to billions others occupy people's bodies (lives). He does have power, only if you let him have power. That is where the issue comes in. With some people, he has total power over their life, because they have yielded to him. With others...through Christ, they have overcome him and have defeated him and are no longer bound by him.
He is a god to most people, yet they don't know it.
There are plenty of "gods" out there...because people "make" other things or even people, their god. But that does not deny the fact that God, alone is the only God who is over ALL.
That's why He is called the King of Kings and Lord of Lords...even Lord of All. (1Tim. 6:15)(Acts. 10:36)
That's why Jesus said " You cannot serve God and mammon." (Luke 16:13) You will only have one master or another (paraphrasing here)
This is because the bible says " Whatever you yield your members to (your physical body) becomes your master. (Rom. 6:13-16;19)
Meaning, you are a subject of only either one or two things. God or the Satan.

Good question.

For every action there is an equal and oppositte reaction. God and Satan are one in the same, the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega.

where do you get this stuff?
Hell is place people go who do not want to get into heaven.
To get into heaven you accept that you are a sinner and that God is holy. In order for you to have fellowship with God you must be made holy. Jesus Christ exchanged the penalty of your sins for blessings of his righteousness.
Accept it and you go to heaven.
very simple
