Are you in therapy? Have you tried Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)? Ever been in inpatient treatment? Sounds like you are tormenting yourself from lack of self-esteem and poor locus of control and above all, depression. Medication does work some, but it's not magic. Therapy/treatment + medication has been proven to be most beneficial.

The self-harm part really worries me. If you aren't in treatment, I suggest you seek support of come kind on a consistent basis. Your behaviors can land you in the hospital if not in a much worse situation, which I don't even want to mention b/c I *hope* for your sake that you will get the help you need.

Best of luck.

You may email me if you would like further info/help.

I used to binge drink to cope, now I do nothing, not even anti-depressants. Do you know why you are depressed? You really need to know the reason and get to bottom of it. I have had this for years and many, many people do. Life is hard and not perfect, and you will have up's and down's. There is no quick fix, there is no easy answer. The negative voice lives in my head too and it will consume you unless you re-train your thinking. Seek help, read books, root out the rot and remember that we all walk with our pain in one way or another, much love, be strong xx

Perhaps you would be a good candidate for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). It helps you to change the way you think and therefore the way you behave - if you can't get it in your area there are tons of good books out there that can guide you through the process. Either that or try mindfulness (CD available via University of Bangor) which I find helpful (I'm bipolar). All the things you describe are self-esteem issues which certainly go hand in hand with depression. Good luck.

Hi ! U are not alone. I feel the same way. Lately I been drinking everyday and I just realized that it must stop. I'm so depressed right now and I feel ashamed because I keep hurting myself so I know that if I don't stop the drinking it will become a bigger problem than it already is. We do stuff to take the pain away and and don't realize that what's suppose to help only hurts more. From over eating, drinking, doing drugs, sex, all that stuff is bad for us. Please feel better get help. You sound like u need a friend please e mail me. God bless u =-)

Well, when we are depressed we may not take the best of care for ourselves. However, you have to recognize that you are not taking care of yourself properly and take steps to change that. You can change your eating and drinking habits, your exercise habits and your sleeping habits. Pills wont' make you change your habits. The pills are to help stabilize your mood so that you can live more heathily. Start making the changes you need to do in order to be more healthy. Not much more one can say. We are each responsible for our health with or without depression. No one is going to do it for you.

Anti depressants on their own are not likely to help in the long term, i suggest that you get your self a therapist and work through what may be causing you have the feeling you are struggling with.

Good luck and i hope you get better.

Counseling can help! Having someone listen and offer you feedback is a powerful thing!

I would be depressed too if I was 32, single and an overeating drug user. What a mess.
